There's a member on here, I think from Florida, who has an imported 5th-gen wagon. You'd definitely want to talk with him, but I can't remember the username.
Some info on importing:

Was always my 2nd favourite car growing up.
I guess times and people change,
even with low kilometers, wouldn't touch one unless it has a completely rebuilt and tuned engine. it's the only way you can ensure you don't invest in a massive money pit.
One of the most overdriven cars in video games. where it's become a case of I haven't even purchased one in forza horizon 2.
I can ring every bit of speed out of one predictably in a theoretical fashion.
Personally to me and my driving style I'd rather a gts-t rwd.
even though you can just pull fuses out and instantly have a rwd in these.
strange huh.
then again if i get in a major accident and still have an interest in cars. I'm jumping straight into one of these. for nostalgic reasons.
next car I invest in will be a CL v12 turbo. round headlights 00's model.
I just dig that right now.
unless other issues arise I'm gonna buy all my hero cars starting with s13's and jz70 supra's. for close to price of registration.
but for practicality it's gonne be the cheapest ute available. that won't get repaired when it self destructs just buy the next cheapest.
$30,000 ontop of purchase price to restore one of these just isn't there anymore. loves lost i suppose.

Yeah, only cars with a manufacture date of 11/13/1989 (as of today) are eligible for importation as street cars. This would now likely include some sold as 1990 models.
You can bring anything you want into the US with the right paperwork, but you will NEVER be able to legally drive a sub-25-year-old import that lacks a substantially similar USDM counterpart. That last bit is the reason people are able to import RHD Accords, Civics, etc... I've actually been in a RHD 5th gen wagon that Rick imported, which is now owned by Gus (nightwolf.)
Anything that is not allowed on US roads, such as any R32, R33, or R34 Skyline manufactured after today's date, can only be brought here for show/race/off-road purposes. Attempting to bypass this law will earn you some heavy fines, and the vehicle will be impounded and destroyed.
A decade ago, importing a Skyline wouldn't have caused a stir. It may be illegal, but cops didn't know what it was. As the tuner scene was emerging, a GT-R would just look like any other modified Japanese vehicle to most cops. People imported them, used license plates from a beater 240sx or Maxima, and usually got away with it.
Now, the Skyline is rather high profile. Their illegality has generated dozens of headlines. Younger cops grew up with the F&F movies, Gran Turismo, and Forza. A Skyline is far more likely to catch the eye of law enforcement. They are also probably trained to spot illegal vehicles (RHD = big red flag.) and they likely know what paperwork to ask for. Internet connectivity is also something they are equipped with now, more so than before, so a quick VIN search and vehicle description are easy to get.
The only way to even HOPE to drive an illegal Skyline on public roads is to be registered as a used car dealer. In NJ, that means having a physical lot, and maintaining a stock of no fewer than TWO vehicles at all times. I don't know what the laws are for other states (FL seems to be lenient, as I've seen a few R33 and R34 Skylines on the road with FL dealer plates.) It doesn't make the car any less illegal, but at least the plates will only show as "dealer plates" rather than plates rightfully belonging on a 240sx or something else.
Another fortunate thing is that most cops probably don't want to deal with the mountain of paperwork that comes with impounding a vehicle and charging the owner with all the broken laws. There will always be those out there that don't care how much work they have to do, as long as they can uphold the law to the letter.
As for that site, I've been going on there and drooling for years now. I even created an account so I could see all the car porn I wish they had more classic (25+) offerings. I know the 90s were the height of Japanese performance and style, but I still get plenty excited over 80s cars that I could actually have in my driveway!
There are a few places in the US that import cars. They do all the work for you. All you have to do is keep an eye on their stock, and jump on something you want. They could probably do a special order, too.
I spend far too much time drooling over the stuff posted by Nostalgia Imports on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/NostalgiaImports) They have a website, but their current offerings are usually on Facebook. I can't recall who directed me to them initially... I think it was smokinspeeds.

Damn! Aside from the person who's getting the fines that airline who ships it usually are the ones that get hit with the fine too. In the end I doubt it if it'll get that far because I'm sure they make you sign off on any legal paperwork which states after the handoff you are legally responsible for it all which will more than likely hold up in court.
