The guy even made a Wikipedia entry for his idea!

Direct Exhaust Injection DEI, first theorized on November 7th 2007 is a revolutionary alternative to conventional forced induction. First proposed by The Nemesis_ZR2, a contributing member of the Nebraska GM Modern Muscle, DEI is the simplest form of turbocharging to date.

Instead of using a traditional exhaust-driven supercharger (known as a turbocharger), its creator proposes that engine exhaust be plumbed directly back into the intake manifold at the throttle body. This design effectively bypasses the turbine and compressor inefficiencies encountered with all conventional turbochargers.

Detractors of DEI claim that such a closed system is unsustainable due the chemical reaction of a standard atmosphere (primarily nitrogen and oxygen) with isooctane (gasoline) which produces water vapor, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide (a byproduct of incomplete combustion), hydrocarbon particulates (another byproduct of incomplete combustion) and oxides of nitrogen (NOx). DEI addresses this by running significantly lean of stoichiometric air fuel ratios (14.7:1 for conventional gasoline). This is accomplished via a hand held tuner in automotive applications.

The main drawback of DEI, though minor in comparison to those of conventional turbocharging, is the higher charge air temperature due to the recirculation of all exhaust gases. This shortcoming has been addressed in the current iteration of DEI known as i-DEI (Intercooled Direct Exhaust Injection).

i-DEI utilizes intercooling to reduce the temperature of recycled exhaust gases as they reenter the intake plenum. This dramatically increased the density of the incoming exhaust charge, improving power output. Intercooling as it is used in i-DEI can be in the form of Air-to-Exhaust or Water-to-Exhaust, though conventional intercooler materials such as aluminum may not be suitable due to the extreme exhaust temperatures.

Plumbing for DEI and i-DEI is recommended to include heavy-duty steel piping with V-band style exhaust clamps, though custom clamps may be necessary for specific applications such as the throttle bodies utilized on GM’s Cross-Fire Injection.

The rationale for this revolutionary approach is based upon late breaking scientific discoveries.
In simple terms, a turbocharger is an obstruction to the flow of a high kinetic and thermal energy exhaust stream. Turbos extracts some useful work from the exhaust stream, but seldom do so at efficiencies above 60%. This means a significant portion of energy is exhausted to the atmosphere via the exhaust system.

Utilizing 100% of the energy produced through internal combustion is the essence of i-DEI. It bypasses the expensive, inefficient turbo and directs high energy exhaust gas directly into the engine's intake plenum via the throttle body. The heat contained in the exhaust flows has the added benefit of virtually eliminating intake icing and the need for a supplemental choke system.

Oh, you upgraded to titanium valve springs?

titanium retainers are different from springs but i usually just say yes.

Yes, better tires improve braking performance, but assuming the tires are the same before and after the 'big brake kit' install, a BBK is an upgrade. The larger rotors alone allow for better heat dissipation because of the greater surface area (which means less fade), and since those kits typically include more pistons in their calipers, that right there provides more clamping force.

"I used to have an accord like that, it's not starting because of the fuel pump. It's luckily old enough to have an external fuel pump and should be easy to change. Mine had the same problem" 9/12/14.
It turned out my spark plug tubes where full of oil so I cleaned them out and tightened the extremely loose valve cover. Took ten minutes including diagnosis. It's a good thing the inline fuel pump was last on my list of possibilities.

Assuming you're not in a racing/track situation (which let's face it 95% of people who mod their cars aren't) and fade isn't an issue, if you can lock your brakes / engage ABS by mashing the pedal hard, your brakes aren't your weak point.

You can change braking feel and initial bite by changing out pads, rotors, brake lines, etc...but it's not changing your ultimate stopping distance. A less aggressive pad will just require more braking force to get the same amount of stoppage.

Again, in a racing situation there is absolutely reason to upgrade braking components to fight fade, but on a street car, sticky tires, then re-evaluate your brake setup.

I live in a mountainous state. Between elevation changes and even just curves in the road, fade is a big deal even when you're just cruising around. If I actually lived in the mountains, I would consider a BBK an extremely good idea. Down to perspective, I guess.

Not quite as stupid as some of these on here, but recently I was heading to a friend's house on a Friday night and took the main strip through town, where all the cruising goes on - as a car guy, I like to see what other people are driving. I'm in my RSX, it's a stock base automatic, slow as hell, but I've got a carbon Mugen-style hood, the Type-R wing, and a shiny Magnaflow muffler sticking out the back. These guys in a '98ish Tahoe get up next to me and the passenger asks to "race for pinks." The only time I've ever raced this thing was against a friend in a stock 4th-gen Prelude, and I have no idea how I'd compare anyway, so I just tell him "I don't want an SUV" and keep rolling. He yells out, "and I don't want a piece of s*** Honda!" Like the whole thing wasn't his idea. It's just sad when people have to resort to cussing when they get offended.
Yeah anyone who isn't in an import that sees you have wheels and an exhaust wants to race because they think you got phat JDM whip. I don't even look over at people when they try and race.

Well, he's right. muscle cars are big 2-door cars with a big v8, front engine, and rear wheel drive. The Panamera is definitely not a muscle car.

My wife told me her ex boyfriend bought an Integra Type-R in 2001 because he thought it was cool. I tried to explain to her there's no way it was an ITR and probably just a GS-R, since he traded it in to get a Nissan Morono. Apparently it was a real ITR. I guess I have to trust my wife now when she talks about cars :/

At a recent meet over the weekend I got asked. "How do I make it NA?'

                          Totally serious question.
