    Dealing with "old car" comments

Anyone else get comments frequently about "I guess you got your money's worth out of your car huh? Or, "don't you think it is time to get a new car, you have the money." I am the original owner of my 92 Accord EX coupe 5speed and I would not sell it for the world. I work on it almost every weekend, it truly is a labor of love and no one in my life gets it. Funny thing is, it probably would have been cheaper to buy a new car over the years rather than spend thousands of dollars on it so it is not like I am cheap or anything, quite the contrary. I just could not bear to see it on the scrap heap.

It has never let me down and it has turned in to a modern classic in my mind. It gets me where I need to go and it has character, unlike most new cars these days. Besides, manual transmission cars have become almost obsolete these days and that is sad to me. Just wanted to know if others get those comments.

I'm about to fly to Seattle from Houston, TX to pick up my 6th CB7. My contemporaries at work are in 6th generation Corvettes, there's a Stage 3 Roush Mustang, King Ranch Super Duty pickups and plenty of other very expensive cars. I would much rather have many older cars that I like than one newer car that costs more but is still going through the bulk of its depreciation. They know about my cars but asking for PTO to tell them I was flying across the country to purchase this dealer-overpriced car and then proceed to drive 2400 miles back to Texas definitely got some comments.

I think that even if people don't understand passion, they at least admire it. If you can't admire a form of passion that brings happiness to someone and hurts no one else in the process, then you're not focused on the right things in life.

Or when you walk into a store and ask for a part and they say "wohh... 93, don't see those anymore". or when you call in for a part and you say "93" but they say "2003" and you say "no, 1993" and they say...... "ohh, that's old".

But as mentioned, some admire it. Ever stop to get gas and someone walks over and talks about how much they love these cars

The cb7 is a rare car that gets under a persons skin and makes him fall in love with it. Too the point that others see it as a obsession.
The ones who admire you their most are the ones who let their cb7 go.

Funny you should mention the gas station...I have had two people walk up to me at gas stations and offer to buy my car...did not even talk price just wanted to buy it. Some guy recently left a note under my windshield wipers telling me if I wanted to sell my car to call him. It is funny how some people get it and other don't.

Tell em to take a hike wit their payments! Haha, my mother tells me all the time I should have a new car by now… I could have gotten a new car for at least 8 years but I refuse to make payments and live for a car and your still gonna have to fix it on top of payments and like $500 a month new car insurance when my insurance now is only $76 a month, I don't owe nobody shit and become an antique in a couple years where I'm at = like $400 a year insurance… Besides, these accords handle like lambos compared to new garbage they make now that can't even take a corner witout feeling like your rolling over, new cars aren't even fun to drive if your a r. If I lost my job tomorrow I'm still driving and nobody can take whats mine over a payment! So what if I spend money in parts on my cb9 once in a while. I live in a smaller city and I can't even go in canadian tire or a parts store n they all know me by face and my cb9(only one I know of in my city still on the road so I only left the H emblem on the back)… b4 I even talk they say hey don't u drive that Honda wagon. I get some compliments and some questions from young and old here n there… just don't forget to watch out for the haters tryna steal shit… I got surprises too when I see you on my cam and I'm up aalllllllll night when I'm off too(nightshift). Lol

Ive driven a lot of new cars too but to me all new cars are junk! They're not really building anything better they're just adding garbage computers, they all look the same(bulky n round), more wires to go wrong and using thinner metal to cut costs and most handle like boats… if they wanna build a new engine and amaze me it has to run witout computers! Take em back to the basics like old school roller skates. Lol… put all the computers n wires in one big ball to tell em how to design a engine.

When I had to replace my rear subframe around spring time my dads 01 echo needed a front subframe at the same time.
4000watts just so all the haters hear me comin!

no it isn't. In the US, they were the best selling car overall in it's segment in 1991 and the Accord was the best selling Japanese car in the country every year from 1982-1997.

They were actually the "leading seller" from 1990-1995. 5 straight years.

I remember reading that somewhere anyway.
Yeah .. GreenBee, I get so many notes under my wipers asking if I too want to sell.

I had this guy at a light the other day. He was driving a MINNNNT 1969 goat.
He said, "wow, you don't see many of those anymore."
To which I replied, "you don't see ANY of those anymore either!" We both lol'd.
I've had guys in fawkin nice ass Mustangs tell me how nice my CB9 is .. I'm always like ..

nothing like being misquoted , NOt rare as they didnt make many
rare as in it inspires love in people.
rare as in it creates passion even rarer that its such a boxy car that does it, rare as in thousands of people still love and drive them.
rare as in people drive across country too pay too much for them.

I thought you meant rare as in not many of them, but you meant "rare type of car" right?

I agree with everything you just said, plus boxy cars are sexy...sharp lines and angles are beautiful.

I made sure I got the information right from Wikipedia. The Accord was the best selling Japanese car in America for 15 years.

Rare as it inspires passion in people? Not really, many people go nuts over many different cars. The Cb7 just happens to be the car YOU like.

Still easy to find parts for these cars. Try owning a 91-96 GM B-body. Many parts are unobtainable at this point. Try even finding one in your local jy. You find CB7 JDM headlights are expensive and rare? GM made very few euro-spec headlights for the Caprice, and the last set that came up a few months ago sold for $2500.

Oh, and I just laugh off the "old car" comments. I drive something inexpensive and cool, while they have new cars and complain about being broke and living paycheck to paycheck, while my bank account just keeps growing. The scars on my hands from repairing my cars are a point of pride for me, while others cry about carpel tunnel from writing checks to their mechanic.

Yup, it's an addiction that I am happy to live with.
