    Torn: Sell or Store

So recently I've been having to figure out exactly what to do with my CB7. For the past year it has been residing in my parent's garage while I've moved to Texas due to the Air Force. The CB7 isn't really running at the moment. It has a strange ECU issue, and the clutch is being awfully finicky, probably a hydraulic problem.

Now my parents have informed me of their intentions to sell their house in order to downsize, meaning I've got to do something with the CB7.

I don't really want to ship it here to Texas because I live in one of the most remote parts of Texas, and I'll be moving again within a year from now, to who knows where, and while I'm here the CB7 won't get any attention because all my time is taken up learning how to fly.

One option is to store it. I looked up costs though, and that is pretty prohibitive as a self-storage unit large enough for the car is about $100 and outside storage like people do with boats isn't much cheaper.

The other option is to sell, which I don't really want to do, but it would make my life easier. I figure if I'm lucky I can get $3500 out of it.

Also of note, I don't need it to drive daily. I do have a car here with me.

If you guys have any thoughts or creative solutions, I'm all ears. My member's ride link is in my sig if you want to check out what I'm working with.

    Thanks,
    Gary

Find a fellow member/friend willing to store it for you, perhaps? Where is it located now? I assume you've discussed with your folks the possibility of moving it with them, if it's only for a year?

I can't offer any genuine advice other than - I ALWAYS regret parting out my CB.
Looking back I really wish I had of just stored it somewhere (paid or free).
Surely you can find someone that would be willing to store it, Even if your parents move, you don't actually need a garage - Find a High quality car cover that wont scratch and repels water (Many cheap covers hold water)

My hindsight says - Hindsight is a bitch.

But that's just my opinion, really it comes down to, Could you still see yourself driving it in 5 years?
If so, I'd do everything I could to keep it, You know the car and if you had to buy another and redo it, it's going to cost money already spent over again.

If at first you don't succeed, Try again. Don't give up too easily, persistance pays off in the end.

if you dont want to sell it, don't do it...you'll find a way to keep it around even if it costs.

you can't put a price on something you poured sweat, blood and maybe tears with. ill have 10g's in my corrado and 10g's will never replace the amount of hours ive had with the car. best relationship ill ever have.

Yeah, pretty sure I have a buddy who will store it for me.

And as for my folks keeping it, won't really work. They are trying to downsize to something like a town house, or condo aka no more big two car garage.

You could always find someone local (to the car) that would be willing to share a storage space. That would cut down on storage costs. Put your car in there, and let them store boxes of their stuff in the space with the car. You'll pay the lion's share of the cost, but it'll still be less than footing the entire bill. You could even store things IN the car, if the person you're sharing the space with is someone you trust enough with a key.

And ECU issues are a big reason I've never been a fan of the H23A!

Haha Deev, the ECU issue isn't because I'm using a stock ECU, the board on my P28 must be fried because all the Hondata stuff appears normal.

That's what I mean. I guess I'm just old fashioned and afraid of new things... but OBD2 ECUs wired into our OBD1 cars just seem... wrong. And tuned ECUs are always a potential source of problems, even when done properly (my own gives me fits when I gun it in 1st... launch control occasionally cuts my fuel even when it's actually in gear!)
