Gotta love those DX bumper covers...

A couple of days ago I put a type R lip on my car as well as some touch up paint. Was really happy with the front end appearance for the first time since i got the car.

Then on a nice day went for a drive up the nearest mountain pass to take pictures. First corner to the pass I hit some black ice and ended up nailing a guardrail going about 25 mph. My plastic front bumper cover took most of the impact then bounced me off of the guardrail.
Yeah, I'm pissed. I was being purposefully careful to avoid doing exactly what happened... Just took the corner 5 mph too fast.
But I'm also amazed. It was a pretty good crunch but the bumper cover itself is still in the correct position and hardly even scratched.

    Fixable.
In the future I'm hoping to find an EX coupe, and when I do it's getting one of these bumpers.

    RIP my last two CB7s.

that bumper is the same material as any other year or trim level accord minus paint.

plus the non-paint matched bumpers look weird.

I like the lip, what does it come from exactly?

Is the bumper cover oem or aftermarket, looks good..sucks about the black ice at least it wasnt a tragic ending.

Its Just a "type r" lip. Dx bumpers are still the same as any other strim level of that same year. They are just left unpainted.

yeah but i asked if it was aftermarket repop or Honda oem. Ive heard the chinese repops have fitment issues.

ok so type-r is just a generic name for that?

gotcha, the mugen ones are okay too a little beefy.. I had a big frozen solid chunk of wheelwell slush rip off the bottom half of my bumper cover and stock lip the other day =\

It's a Type R lip for a 95-96 Accord. Got it on eBay.

Hmm, learn something new every day... Seems like it would be hard to get a good, long lasting coat of paint on the black DX bumpers so I assumed the color matched ones were different material.

At least I don't have to repaint any scratches.

...does have me curious now to know if anyone has painted one of these before?

There is no such thing as a Type R CD5 tho...just an SiR model.

Also in order to paint the DX bumpers you have to clean, lightly sand (not really sure on this. I know when REpainting you have to sand) , and then pain them with plastic paint (not the actual name) that allows the paint to flex with the bumper.

And there have been a couple members who have painted their DX bumpers

^ It's modeled after the EK9 Civic Type-R's lip. Type-R "style," I suppose would be more correct. Looks great, imo, as does the unpainted DX bumpers. It gives the coupes and sedans the kind of raw racy look that a lot of guys in Japan use for their track cars.
