What would you have done ?

I just got back from a school dance with my daughter ( she's only 9 years old ). kids can be so me . she was dancing with two girl that where her friends then other kids started to call them lesbians . After that they all just set and talk ok cool . then the other two girls left so it was just my daughter sitting at the table well i'm where the adults are told to stay . after a while a teen boy asked her to dance . Man was she so happy then the boy said sike stupid kid . Then she ran off to the bath room. when came out yes i broke the rule's what ever i asked for her hand and again she smiled and we got in to good dances before we got caught then escorted off campus . i kept my cool to save her the embarrassment but asked why cant i dance with my daughter . You allow kids to be mean to others but i can't make my little girl happy . so we left and went to Deny's came back home and had our own winter dance . what would you guy's have done with you're daughter / son at best intrust ?

I would have done the same and mentioned to the people at the how school how mean they were being to her. That is harassment and they should not be allowed to get away with it.

Go over the teacher's head and complain to the principal... they hate it when parents get pissed about how their kids are treated. Its terrible how mean kids can be and how neglectful the adults at schools can be. I am sure there is someone you can contact that would be willing to help you. Maybe even someone from the school district.

Im going to the school district in the morning as i have already had a go around with the principle about her defending her self . he did nothing but suspended her . she ended up with a black eye and a week vacation .

Drop a line to your local news station about the situation.school principals just love having reporters asking questions.

            Good luck with the meeting

I would have done the same thing, and it sounded like a good opportunity for a daddy/daughter dance.

I think you did the best thing you could've done. Kids can be mean, and sadly you really can't stop it. That's just how they are, and it's important for kids to learn how to deal with it (life doesn't get any easier!)
I think it was great that you stepped in and showed your daughter that you care when she was feeling down. You didn't fight her battles for her. You just stepped in and let her know you're there for her. That's the best possible thing.

Sucks that you got kicked out, but I suppose I understand it. Rules are rules. Worth it, though.

I would've done the same thing but I wouldn't have any hard feelings about it now. Teachers are in an uphill battle with parents from the get-go. Most of them don't give a fuck and the general teacher population is half my age.

So, go figure we don't see eye to eye. Just don't be an extension of their authority. Don't let them influence the home life I guess is what I am saying.

Your daughter(sorry if this is harsh) is going to have to deal with shit like this the entire rest of her life. She will be better off getting crushed and beat down at 9 then if you are somehow able to shield her from it till she is an adult or even a teenager. My older boy is 16. I can relate to the feelings of wanting to come to their defense. My son gets in fights and shit and has all sorts of drama. Girlfriends, slashed tires, varsity sports etc etc etc. Its like 90210 at my house on the weekends.

You did the right thing in being there for her and supporting her and helping change her attitude. You showed her that its easy to move on and not to let people ruine your fun.

Don't show her how to hold a grudge next. Thats no good for her. And no matter how it feels to you or her now, holding onto those feelings will merely validate the actions of others that started this conversation in the first place.

With stuff like this it either means everything, or nothing. Sounds to me like this is a "nothing" situation and you handled yourself appropriately so far. I wouldn't hold a grudge over it though. Think of all the shit teachers see? Their opinion of what is acceptable and normal is different than yours/mine/one of a parent. They have to keep up with hundreds of kids a year, so they tolerate all sorts of shit for whatever personal agenda/strategic advantage they are after. Some teachers are awesome, others are terrible. Regardless, come June none of it means anything and its time to start all over again with a new teacher/set of teachers in the new year.

So yeah, it either means everything, or you have to treat it like it means nothing. There really isn't much middle ground.

The shitty thing is that teachers can't do shit any more, I mean they can probably say something but they are so limited now days. My mother in law is a teacher and she said they can't even give kids hugs anymore because of what "could" happen. Sometimes kids hug and she said its difficult to say no and push them away.

Teach her to smile and ignore, bullies are stupid.

Kids need to learn to forgive and forget. Other kids can be pretty brutal. Hell, I STILL hate when little kids say mean things to me!

If you were in violation of the dance rules, then I'd say the lady did the right thing by ejecting you. Sucks, but rules are rules. Still, that was a rule worth breaking to make your daughter happy.
