    Calling You Animal Lovers

CB7 crew: I need your help

whatever happened to our animal sub forum anyways?

Getting to the point, how many of you would be interested in a pet bed that measures your pet's weight while they are on it (mainly used during sleep) as well as heats up or cools depending on the temperature of the room. It can also send you alerts via email or text if something seems out of the ordinary and will represent things such as sleep movement and weight change in graphical form.

It will also have a removable cover so it's easily washable and a waterproof base to save the insides from pee and saliva.

This bed is for any pet but since only cats and dogs sleep in beds, it's really meant for them. Having said that, this bed is even more aimed at dogs since that will be our test subject and we're building everything able to withstand a dogs beating (since usually dogs are bigger and stronger than cats).

This is a group project for school and I need to collect some data/ get some feedback.

    So having said all that:

Are there any of you who are or know people in the animal health business? Do you have any suggestions as to what ELSE we should measure besides weight, temperature, and movement?

I have already spoken to one vet and a Petsmart employee who couldn't think of anything else besides heart rate and pulse. My group has decided against those things because of the difficulty that follows them.

If you would be interested in a product that could do all the things mentioned above, how much would you expect it cost? How much is too much for a pet bed? I've seen $300 ones on the web that don't anything close to what ours will.

Thank you so much for any and all feedback. Please let me know if anything needs to be cleared up. Please don't be gentle with criticisms either, we need realistic opinions, no matter how pessimistic they may be.

Our hope is that this bed's purpose will be to notify owners of health issues before they arise or before they get out of hand. We researched that a lot of common pet diseases have rapid weight change as a symptom so hopefully a system like this that tracks your pets weight daily or weekly will help pet owners notice a change before it's too late. It's difficult to weigh an animal and in between vet visits might not be often enough. This bed will hopefully keep track of your pets health as well as give your vet something very easy to read and use for diagnoses.

    Here's the little test subject:

Elliot- pit bull & lab mix

A puppy that lives with me since my friend can't house him currently. Odd situation I know but it works and I love him to pieces. He is 14 weeks at the time of this post.

The subforum was removed for a lack of interest, and because the guy I made it for (as a favor) stopped posting here.

Anyway, that's a pretty cool concept, but I'd imagine it'd be extremely pricey to produce. I'd be concerned about all those electronics being a potential health/safety hazard for my pet, especially an older dog like mine that could potentially pee on it. Also, any electronics that emit any sort of vibration or noise could drive a pet away from the bed, so that would need to be taken into consideration.

Sorta joking about the animal forum, that's what the rest of the internet is for, no need to hog up space here with it. I already asked the pet forum I'm on for their opinions, just wanted to increase the amount of people I could reach for this project.

Duly noted on the electronics. Seeing as safety needs to remain the #1 priority we will definitely make sure the animal is safe.

Good call on the noise/vibrations. What's the point in a bed if the animal doesn't want to sleep on it. Thanks a lot deev
