In the market for a garage stereo.

I'm looking for a compact stereo that has cd/mp3/usb/ipod capabilities for tunes in my shop. I want it to be small enough to fit on the lid of a top tool chest but have good sound quality. Do you guys have any recommendations?

      Use a car stereo.

A "Finished" project car is never finished until its been sold.

If at first you don't succeed, Try again. Don't give up too easily, persistance pays off in the end.

Looked at that same setup at Lowes this past weekend. I wasn't satisfied with Kobalts quality, they did use pioneer audio equipment but the actual tool chest just screamed cheap contrary to its price...

I never really thought about using a car stereo system I could even wire in speakers into the walls and ceilings.

I just use an old 5 disc dual cassete, with 4 speakers wired in. the reciever and 2 speakers sit above my tool chest and 2 speakers mounted up high. For mp3 hookup I just have a tape on a string. no usb though.

You could rig something up like this for $10-15 @ garage sales.

Plus it doesnt matter if it gets covered in dust, metal shavings and dust from the grinder, aerosol cleaners, paints and lubes.

I buy alotta that shit for simple things like this in PAWN-SHOPS!
Amazing what one can find in a pawn-shop .. or like someone else said, garage sale.
But garage sales are too much driving around, looking at craigs list again, driving again ..
I hit atleast 2 pawn-shops .. done deal! Always find what I need!

I do 6x9's in all 4 corners of each bay of the shop.

They are wired to some pioneer receiver I bought for like 80 bucks at a pawn shop, and I use the powered sub output for a kenwood theatre sub thats hidden under the workbench.

Nothing fancy. I bought the 6x9's in boxes at the pawn shop for like $65-$95/pair. But, it sounds great for what its needed for and was fairly cheap. Since they are car speakers and mounted in the corners, they carry that "shop feel"
