Come on man, why you gotta take it there?
Dude is saying hes trying to fight at 205. That alone acknowledges that he is trying to lose some weight. Of course, if he is training/fighting, hes lifting.
Jesus christ man.

Going to watch the fight when I get home. I trained in martial arts pretty much all my life, started TaeKwon Do at the age of 6 and I'm now nearly 34, so I can offer some good insight into your stand-up game. However, when it comes to takedowns or clinches I am pretty much useless. I have competed all over the map with TaeKwon Do, but I know it is much different than being in the cage.

Watched the fight.
-It seems like you struggle with holding your hands up, as though nobody has taught you how to properly defend with a boxing technique. Is this true? Ideally you want to keep your fists as high as your ears but in front of your face, your elbows parrallel to your ribs, and your chin down. You really set yourself up for counter punches, and an established boxer is going to take advantage of this. You should really focus on what you do with your hands during and after the strike as this seems to be a great opportunity for you.
-You frequently end up belly to back, their head in your junk while standing. In the pile driver position. You need to learn how to use this to sprawl and apply your weight onto their back and transition that into a take down, hopefully taking their back or gaining side control as they roll over to avoid losing their back. You have good control in this position, and you naturally reach high in the scramble. I think you would benefit a lot from learning this technique. If you kick your legs out and grab double over hooks while in this position, you'll end up basically laying on top of them and the natural process is that they want to roll over. If you keep your under hook maintained on your right side, and swing your body to the left, its fairly easy to take their back as long as they don't catch your legs with their right arm. You'll start by holding the overhook with your right hand, but in the swing you'll transition that hand to around the head/underhook on the other arm and take the original side with your left hand. If you struggle with taking their back, allow them to roll over and take side control in the process. Keep your legs sprawled either way so they cannot catch you as you swing to take back, or sneak their legs in under you in the roll to move to half guard.
-Your kicks are working against you. If you cannot throw them hard enough, fast enough to do damage- there really is no point. It seems like your jab/kick game needs some love. I think you would do better if you could learn a few strikes to set up the right hand. You forecast the right hand when you want to throw it and working on your jabs/leg kicks will certainly help with that. People have to respect the rest of your game too.
-Have you ever KO'd anyone? Serious question. Are you being trained to finish a fight? Seems all too often fighters are trained to stand and fight, but KNOW NOTHING about how to finish the fight. 2-3 times in this fight I saw an opportunity to finish the fight. When you get closer and scramble with people, you need to alter your strikes from punches to elbows and knees. Punches work up close, but you are a big guy and elbows/knees will be faster/more efficient strikes for you in the clench. On the ground- knees in ribs on a downed opponent are brutal. When people turtle up on you and nothing happens on the ground, you need to have a strike to turn to, that changes their mind about feeling comfortable with the turtle position. Knees to the ribs from side control, knees to the butt from full guard top position, elbows to the kidney/ribs whenever you can, and elbows to the top of thigh in full guard on top-all change attitudes. Be carefull if you elbow to the top of the thigh repeatedly, anyone worth a shit will eventually try and time your strike with their legs and attempt a triangle. Don't just hit them once either. Pull back, focus, and drop 3-4 in a row. They'll scramble to stop it, and in that scramble implement your strategy.
-Footwork, footwork, footwork. I think you could do better if you were both better trained with footwork and in being trained, you would be able to identify others' shortcomings in their footwork as well. Positioning has a huge role in how the fight takes place. The guy you were fighting was a moron with his footwork. When someone circles to your right, learn to throw a straight left jab on the angle they create as they circle to your left, their right. Follow that with a right switch kick to the outer thigh and you'll be in business. Even if they block the punch, plan on doing the damage with the kick.
I could add more man, Im certainly not trying to pick apart your fight. Keep getting out there and doing your thing. You'll evolve either way, hopefully some of what I am saying sticks. It will help, I promise.
You are doing a good job, and certainly are brave for putting the video out there for anyone to judge.
You've already earned my respect.Last edited by toycar; 09-23-2013, 12:05 PM.Originally posted by wed3kim a douchebag to people and i don't even own a lambo. whats your point? we, douchbags, come in all sorts of shapes and colours.
