I always buy a set of 4 matched tires when I need new ones. It's stupid to have mismatched and worn tires, you're just asking for trouble with the differences in traction between the 4 tires.

Yeah, I always buy 4 at a time also. I had my 2 best on the back but they weren't good enough. Shoulda been driving slower knowing I had little tread.

Firstly glad to hear that you are okay. Yes it sucks that your ride got banged up but as long as you are okay, you'll get over it. Tires and brakes are often two things that some don't take the time to keep up. I was always told that a good set of tires are an absolute must as are brakes. I rarely run a set to less than 10% remaining as often you get next to no grip and braking takes that much more effort. I always tell others to never go cheap on tires as a good set will often help you when you need to do something important, like stopping or avoiding an accident. Always go with the best you can get and it's why I often tell others that having two sets of tire are a must. Have a dedicated set for the spring, summer and fall. And have a set for the winter. Yes, make sure you have a full set of four tires and make sure to keep the tire pressure up and rotate as needed. Sadly most of the old guys like myself have had something similar happen to us or a friend and as long as you learn from this experience, it's a good lesson to learn. Best of luck with whatever happens and know that you aren't alone.

I have debated having a dedicated winter tire but as it rarely gets below freezing here in SC, all seasons do well. It would be nice to have a dedicated Summer tire though, more grip than the all seasons!

You never want to be the guy hoping that the weather will hold out. Keep in mind that even if the weather doesn't get too bad and just is cold, cold weather can affect all season tires. Being here in Vancouver, BC, Canada we don't get too bad of winters here. Rarely do we get more then a few centimeters of snow. But it does get really cold in the winter and I always see others running all over the place in the winter because their tires are not working. When it gets to around 5-7 degrees here, I always swap out my summer tires. Having worked at a tire shop for a couple years I would always laugh at those who would wait till snow falls and rush in to get winter tires.

Update. I was out of the country (in Canada) last week so just getting things straight.

Repair estimate was $5300 lol. He included putting it on the frame puller which I think it doesn't need and he's also swamped with work so prolly figured labor high. Parts was $2400, labor $2700, $250 other.

So needless to say even with the $3300 mods which supposedly increase the value some it's totaled.

After my $1k deductible is taken away, State Farm Ins is giving me $1900 settlement which I have not agreed to yet OR $1600 if I keep the car (I will).

I priced parts from ebay, rockauto, and hondapartsdeals and parts would be $1k then I'd have to have some body damage/cutting/welding done. Then I can install the panels and have it painted.....no way all that happens for $1600.

              I'm thinking of 2 options:

              1. Buy a 93 EX in great condition from Virginia for $2300 (maybe talk him down to $2k). Swap all my goodies over and sell mine for it's metal weight.

2a. Sell all my goodies to you guys and use all the cash to purchase a 03-05 Subaru Forrester AWD 5spd.

              2b. Sell goodies and buy a 01-03 E46 330 AWD 5spd.

Both cars can be had for around $5k from watching recent ebay auctions.
