    Controversial Discussion....School's Zero Gun Policy

Alright many of you know I like guns , I think they are awesome. Now I keep hearing stories of elementary school kids getting introuble, and even suspended, for making guns out of their guns or making shooting sounds. A kid even got introuble for chewing up his pop tart into the shape of a gun? I've even heard a story of a local kid who did a report on some battle and got introuble because he mentioned certain guns that were used during the battle??????????????

I want to hear what everyone has to say to maybe learn a new perspective. I keep feeling as they are pussyfying our new generations.

I think that it is a case by case situation.

Obv suspending a kid of being a kid and playing cowboys and indians and running around going pew pew pew is ridiculous...

    BUT

Elementary age kids have brought guns into school to shoot bullies and to show off, accidentally killing kids on the school bus etc...

so if a child seems to have a fascination with guns, or any weapon really, then it should be evaluated.

It's just that as a teacher or AP, when you see kids running around during recess and they're pretending to shoot other kids, im sure it's unsetteling because its entirely possible for a kid to sneak in a gun and shoot someone. It happens, it's not the guns fault, but kids will be kids...they don't understand the reprocussions and how dangerous something like that is....so they may be just playing....but what if they're hell bent on shooting someone and they are just imaginging it and the clock is counting down until dad forgets to secure his gun. Then Johhny slips it in his bag and off to school he goes...

then recess is never the same again....ya know?

The whole thing is getting seriously out of hand in my honest opinion and it isn't just with guns. It is anything that parents don't approve of. Little Red Riding Hood has been banned from school libraries, dodgeball has been banned from most schools, There has even been a case where a school banned kids from having a BEST friend! Instead they are to play in groups equally and not consider anyone more of a friend than someone else O.o.

Things have gotten way beyond pussifying as you called it.

that's just it though ... it isn't in the kid's best interest. It is all for the parents. I learned about firearm safety when i was just in pre-k. I had my first bb gun when I was 6 and my first shotgun when i was 8. I never felt the urge to go out killing people. Oh, and I have played violent video games too. Also started playing Dungeons and Dragons in 4th grade.

I know I am getting a little off the topic but I guess what I am trying to say is that I have done a lot of things in my life that people say are bad and tried to blame things on but I am fine. Then I know people who were sheltered their whole lives who went nuts when they finally became adults and could make their own choices. All they knew were that their parents said it was bad and they couldn't do it. They were never taught the reasons or allowed to make their own choices as kids or teens.

I have started teaching my kids who are 7 and 4 about gun safety using airsoft pistols. They both play games that some would consider violent. When they get to the age where they feel the need to drink, smoke, try drugs, etc. I will sit them down and discuss those with them. If they want to drink I will try my best to drill it into their heads like my father that drinking is ok as long as you don't drive and you know your limit also my parents usually let me drink if I wanted at home and by the time I was 21 I really didn't drink much. If they want to smoke my wife will deal with that because she used to smoke a lot and now smokes e-cigs. If they want to try drugs well that is one I will have to figure out since I smoked weed and tried shrooms as a teen but never hard drugs.

I keep veering off the main topic but it all ties together in the end that rather than just dishing out all of these stupid suspensions and punishments for stupid little things like toy guns, or in the case of the little girl who got put on a terrorist watch list because she threatened to shoot her friend with a bubble gun. Why not offer programs to teach gun safety and answer questions and concerns on the topic. The NRA is offering a lot of kids programs at gun shows and conventions across the country.

All that is happening right now is people who don't know any better are building an unreasonable fear of guns in our children.

With parenting it is do as I say, not as I do. That's it end of story. Obv somethings are bit more grey, but it's a individual issue.

I do feel that education is a good thing, hiding weapons from kids and keeping things hush hush doesn't really do anything good for anyone.

Id be uneasy about training being mandated, because accidents happen and it would make me uncomfortable as id like to be the one that decides if I want to expose my child to that danger but, I don't see a problem outside that.

It is a coordinated effort to brainwash at a very early age. This country was founded on the principle of protecting yourself from the govt but many want our a way of life to end. They can' t change the minds of the people to eliminate guns, but if they start early enough and brainwash the next generation into thinking guns are bad, then huge inroads can be made. If a majority grow up thinking guns are evil and protecting yourself is bad, then someone will be easily come in and take over our country.
