WTF is wrong with car commercials.

This always pissed me off. The fact that car commercials rarely show the actual car. I think it was the Yaris commercials were the first to actually not show the car at all. Now this dam Audi commercial looks like a fuckn commercial for Canada, and not a car.

W..T..F. I honestly can't think of one car commercial that makes me want to buy that particular vehicle. They are probably trying to do the "let's make the commercial stick in their head" or make it so annoying that you can't get it out of your head. Or they use a stupid jingle or a unrealistic scenario (like carrying 5 dogs).

Can anyone think of a commercial where they show the actual car. Like the inside of the car and the outside? Let's not mention the MPG is something no-one can achieve and other stupid facts.

I just want honest commercials, shit just make them like this for all I care.

Speak up on the car commercials you hate or like.

OMG LOLOLOL that honest car commercial totally sounds like the dealer I work at!

    For these below, seems legit

But that first one actually makes sense. Canada's a very diverse, rugged environment, and that Audi SUV can apparently handle it. So if you buy that Audi, nothing will stop you from enjoying Canada's beauty

Yeah, they could have shown the truck driving through each of the different environs shown, rather than just the one, but it still speaks.

And I don't think that Aries commercial was a spoof so much as it was a guy getting creative trying to sell his car. Ingenious sales stories pop up on Craigslist every now and then, we've even had a CB one relayed on this site.

Fuck ya, now this is a car commercial! I think this is the first one where I've really heard the sound of the muffler! I actually want to buy that car now.

Ya, but its a car commercial. I know nothing about the car. Interior, HP, sound, features? All I know is that it can drive in Canada > lame, stupid. A tank can drive in Canada, so can any other car.

Car commercials are the way they are because no one other than the 5% of the population that call themselves car enthusiasts care about power/efficiency/mileage. Shoot, I don't really care about those numbers either. When the majority of people make the gigantic purchase of a new car, they don't care about 0-60 times, how flat the torque curve is, or what rpm peak power is delivered. They are making a life decision, in terms of monetary output but also in terms of lifestyle choices. The young businessman that wants to pull up to a Broadway show is going to be looking for something classier than a Civic SI, regardless of how great the Honda's mileage is relative to its competitors. And the retired vet looking for the reliability and versatility of a 1/2 ton truck is going to be far more enthused by [unsubstantiated] promises of long term reliability than a new center differential. Car companies see this and decide, if consumers are more concerned with the life-image their material purchases set, screw the stats. We need to appeal to our market by showing them why our vehicles fit their desired lifestyle better than their current possessions.

And frankly, even when companies do make bold statements (think Hyundai and the new Insight) about their technicial specifications, they're often wrong, lies, or manipulations of government standards that don't really matter anyway. So who cares if a Q5 can do 0-60 in 6.2 seconds? The potential buyer of a Q5 shouldn't give a crap about that. The buyer of a Q5 is looking to be in a spacious environment while not being concerned with oncoming road hazards.

Finally, I think we're mistaking that "honest" car commercial for a "funny" commercial. They aren't gonna f*ck your wife and, just like you were complaining about, we learned jack squat about the cars they're selling.

VW sets the bar as far as car commercials go. Through their advertisements, they portray far more than the car. And that makes complete sense. Cause consumers are looking for far more than cars.

you know that's the first thing I saw when I thought about the Honda Civic commercial with the guys driving all around on the ceiling in all that mean that's just being unrealistic. basically I know was supposed to introduce a whole new different siemen of cars in everything like that but the one I can honestly respect is the Lexus.

Ya. There are car commercials that do impress me. They will show how the seats fold down, dual climate control systems, power folding mirrors, automatic parallel parking, etc.

A 30 second clip won't sell me on a car either way.

Yeah these commercials be sending the wrong ideas on selling cars. I personally rather look at the brochures to make sense of it.

The kicker is that there's prob a whole team of people sitting around a meeting table that think up these stupid commercials. Heck, there's probably a backup team that comes up with alternatives to the stupid commercial team A came up with. Spend tens of thousands of dollars for what? To show me pictures of a scenic hill? To show me leaves blowing around as a car drives by or not even show the car at all.
