    CD5 dirt cheap?

My sisters fiance inherited his moms 6th gen accord and his cd5 has just sat in the yard and hasn't been driven in almost a year. I'm pretty sure he mentioned crushing it the other day. Trans is shot on it... But its still an accord... all i know is its a 4 silly auto... new-ish tires, RIMZ (not hubcaps but stock). He just had a bunch of work done to it, new radiator, distributor, alternator, plugs, plug wires, and i think a new timing belt. it ran when he put it there (just like crap cuz the trans is taking a huge dump), but i wouldn't recommend driving any distance with it. the con is he bought it in like 2002 or something. im pretty sure hes second owner. but he has driven it like 2 miles down his dirt road for the last 10 years. think its worth picking up for cheap? im sure the suspension is toast... just a thought...

just quickly looking it doesn't have any "rust-through" but it could have some bubbly in the fenders (its a Honda thing) typical shitty clear-coat. hit a deer... well a deer hit him in the front driver side fender, most of the dent was pulled (new fender 50 bucks). 200k miles i think on the stock motor?

Since he was talking about crushing it, i'd offer him the same amount he would get at a crushers.

Back home, the most you'd get is probably around 300-400 dollars for a car at the crusher.. now the older steel bodied cars would be a little more considering they weighed a bit more.

Then again, I only got 150 bucks for my old S10 blazer... But it was rusted through, I could probably have fit my head through the quarter panel.

i would start with maybe a 250 offer.. but, make sure when you offer, not to insult him, otherwise he'll just be like 'nah' and up the price even higher.. you may be best off just asking what he's looking out of it.. if he says toss me an offer.. i'd say 300. and go from there..

OR! You could google how much a cd5 weighs, then call a scrap yard and find out how much they give for a car of that weight.. and then you can base your offer off of that

true, im tryin to figure out if its even worth my time with the trans out. idk if he wants to rebuild it or what. it was his first car, he rlly loved it and talked about putting a standard in it anyway. ill have to see what his plans are and stuff.

CD5's are becoming cheaper and easier to find than cb7's in similar condition. If you can come up with the coin, I'd rather just buy one thats running and on the road. Less hassle that way.

There are just a TON of variables that could come up. Anything that has sat that long is LIKELY to have bad seals/gaskets, shitty suspension if not completely blown, bad bushings all over, rust in very strange places and any electrical connector could be fuckered.

Its hard telling what all could be wrong, but seriously, for the money I would just buy something that was known running.

You buy it for $300-$400 on a "deal" and then the main rear seal is fucked. Sure, the part is cheap.

Have fun fixing that though. It only takes 2-3 issues like that to make it not worth it. Any number of gaskets, bushings and random electrical dried out sockets could be shot.

Just saying. I would buy a running car. I see them for $1500 and less all the time.

If the body is in good shape, and you're interested in a project... then it would be a good cheap shell. But yes... if you get it, be prepared for anything and everything to fail.

My own CB has been sitting for 4.5 years. Started occasionally and allowed to idle (on 4.5 year old gas... ) Once I fix the problems that are keeping it off the road, I expect a number of other things to be in desperate need of attention. I took it to my friend at Honda to check out the suspension shortly before I took it off the road, and he said that all my rubber components are in surprisingly good condition. Chances are they are no long in such good condition.

Not really looking for another project. Just built a 78 bronco (just needs paint and wheels). and im workin on my cb, just thought that it would be a good thing to have IN CASE my cb takes a massive dump on me.
