I did figure out if I ever want to build a computer......this is damn sure the place to ask
Well if that's the case then I would be inclined to tell you to buy the one you posted....

except that it's an all in one and $1400.

The one WildBill posted is about the same(except WAY more RAM)

    And it is only $700.

    Like I said,

    Its easy.

Quad core processor. As much ram as possible. As much storage space as possible.

A 3.0 ghz quad core, 5-10G of RAM, and 1tb or more of space will be sufficient.

Try to get that for as cheap as possible.

That Gateway is a good buy, I personally don't like Gateway(have 0 exp just from reading).

I have had an XPS from Dell(who I previously hated) for a few months now, and have had 0 issues with it.

Upgrading a computer is easy. Remove the old part, plug in the new part. With modern operating systems, it's rare that you even have to install software. Literally... just pop out the old, pop in the new. Most thing will only fit in their proper place. It's easier to swap out computer components than it is to change a spark plug!

As far as Dell goes... I still have an aversion to the brand. A few years ago, all my friends and family had me fix their computers. 9 out of 10 were Dells.

Right, so if something goes out on the all-in-one PC you are replacing a $1400 part, if your monitor goes out on a desktop, you just go buy another $90 monitor. Computers aren't always a set it and forget it thing, sometimes a power spike can kill the power supply or your DVD drive dies. Those are cheap and easy fixes with a desktop, even if you pay someone to fix it, compared to an all-in-one system.

I agree, working on PC's is very very simple.

          Troubleshooting, however, is not.

If what we are saying is french, then it's best if he just buys a prebuilt system.

If his wife needs his for extra income, its best to get a prebuilt with whatever warranty so she doesn't kill him when it blows up in 2 weeks lol.

Besides it doesn't sound like he is interested in learning about it which is fine, you got to know your likes and dislikes.

When something doesn't work, like on cars, it can be fucking infuriating.

Yea I hated Dells....I NEVER had a brand loyalty until Android came around.

          With pcs, I still don't.

My first PC was a custom built one from a warehouse deal in Miami lol.

I then upgraded that one for a 64b processor before Vista came out and 64 processors were mostly unknown in 2004.

Machine was a beast and 10x faster then anything store bought.

That PC JUST blew up in Feb 2012.

I now have the XPS 9200 which is somewhat modern(Can run Metro 2033 on max settings)

When this one goes, the wife want's an Imac....I have no issues with Imacs, I think they are good machines.

It will be hard for me, because I know my way around a PC and Like having something I can tear into and fix if need be.

I literally just ordered a MacBook pro.

I bought it to edit my gopro videos.

Here are the specs on it. Nothing crazy but it should be alright for me.

            13-inch: 2.9GHz
            2.9GHz dual-core Intel Core i7
            Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz
            8GB 1600MHz memory
            750GB 5400-rpm hard drive1
            Intel HD Graphics 4000
            Built-in battery (7 hours)2

This will be my first apple computer.

Damn the new ones have the battery built in!?

I just got an older macbook(circa 2008) and it has the removable battery and from what I read, they only last about 2 years.

I wonder how that works with a built in battery.

One more thing the "genius" bar has to fix.

Yeah, built in batteries are a pain in the nuts. If my iPhone battery dies, the damn thing has to be taken apart completely to replace it. Easy enough with the older model (my 1st gen barely holds a charge... I should do that), but the newer ones are a bitch to get apart without breaking them.
