I don't think our conversation ruined the thread, it was slightly but also slightly on topic too. My only question, and you can answer in PM if you want, is what version of Android is on your work phone? I only ask becuase if the app was released as specific to ICS/JB then it has to go through an evaluation process to ensure it fits the design requirements. If it doesn't it will get rejected and not be available. There have been a few recently that I can put on my gingerbread phone that I cannot install on my JB TF700T because they don't meet the requirements.

I'm pro android myself. I dislike the iPhone(and related products) but i cant hate on their other stuff. Ive had tons of debates with family and friends but all in fun. I openly call most iPhone fans sheep for obvious reasons but I know that it makes no sense in badgering them because its free world...everyone is entitled to liek what they like. If I wasnt so cheap I would actually buy a Mac book lol.

Once again, the Kindle is a pretty good entry level tablet depending on what you expect it to do.

About the Kindle Fire, the cost is around $199 for the HD one, the newest one has yet to be released, but if you are set on a Kindle it is the one to wait for but will cost around $250 on release. Generally you cannot find the $159 version in stores anymore, most are pushing the kindle fire HD, but you can order it directly from Amazon. If you are looking for a small form factor tablet it is not bad, but I strongly recommend the HD if you plan to use it for netflix and serious reading, your eyes will thank you. The charge port can be finicky.

Again for that price range the $199 Nexus7 is a killer deal, it has the Tegra3 quad core 1.3ghz processor and 1gb of ram plus 8gb of storage, the $250 Nexus7 has 16GB of storage. Of course you can put a microSD in and expand your storage for a minimal cost too. It's stats are better than Kindle Fire HD and it is not limited to Amazon store only.

only prob i had with the charge port is that the connector fits too snug but it never bothered me really.

This is my two cents worth. I am an android person myself. A family member has an ipad2 and it Is just limited on some things like a flash player. For myself, i have a razor maxx phone and i just got a lapdock on sale. With the lapdock , i can do a good amount of stuff. I know there is a lot of people on here with a lot more knowledge than myself. But that's just my two cents worth.

I have been thinking about tablets a lot lately. The motherboard on my laptop has went bad. So i have been thinking about what to do next.

One question i would research, which machines have USB capability? I like to save files and have access to the files at home and work. Thoughts?

So far the only android device with a native USB port that you can plug things like mp3 players or USB drives into would be the ASUS TF700T with the keyboard dock. The keyboard dock lets you also use full size SD cards and extends the battery by 7 hours.

I'm typing this now on my TF700T w/ keyboard dock, and I can tell you it is the nicest thing since sliced bread.

Hell yea, i sold my fire the moment i heard about the nexus 7.

There were a lot of people with issues upon release (Asus qc problem)

I've had mine for a few months now and i love it.

Still fast as hell thanks to jb, quad core, and project butter.

I got the 16g version.

Imo, its the best tablet out besides maybe the tf.

When the iPad mini comes out that might be sweet but no mater what Apple does, i HATE that the apps are all over the place.

I gave up on trying to educate people on the pro and con.

Toy makes awesome points though. People are going to get what they want so its not worth stressing lol.

I fully planned on getting an imac but someone offered me a Dell xps for free so you know lol

The new Kindle fire and fire HD can be rooted but the boot loaders are locked so a custom ROM is pretty tough to get on. It will brick if you try.
I like the Nexus 7, but I think I voted against it b/c it does not have the microSD port.
As for Ipads, really good product, but difficult to afford. But since technology move on so fast, it's hard to justify spend that much for some thing that might be consider old tech in less than 6 months.

Every thing has its strong and weak point. The most important things are: affordability and preferences.

I like the Asus and Samsung stuffs, but those are barely less then the Ipads. So I'll stick with my Dell Studio for now. I got it running Windows, Mac OSx and Linux.
