So an AWD CB7 is possibel

I seen a pic on FB today of a BB6 that is AWD today and the key thing is the mods list is the H2B conversion that is used. If memory serves that can also fit any H or F series engine as well, H2B also means that one can use a CRV tranny with the AWD drive setup. Thoughts and concerns. When I get the rest of the post I will post it up here later on.

    Happy

    EDIT

I am a lil buzzed please excuse the typo above...

Isn't it just RWD? A maroon redish Prelude if memory serves me. It had axle plugs for the front. Car was heavily modded and didn't have a trunk. Also had to ride high just to get everything to fit.

The CRV Realtime system is not really AWD.

AWD has always been possible... it just requires a TON of work.

Honestly, it'd probably be easiest to use a Mitsubishi setup. Most effective, and found in cars as small as (or smaller than) the CB7.

You could always cutup a Accord and a Subaru and put the Subaru floorpan and chassis in an Accord bodyshell.

                Same idea but different vehicles:

As long as the wheelbase is the same and you are good at welding, it should work.

True. I believe somebody did it with a Civic - Civic bodyshell on an STI (can't remember where I saw that)

One thing to think about is the Accord shell potentially twisting when you cut the bottom off. So you would probably need to bolt/weld some temporary braces to the shell while it is being transferred onto an AWD platform. Although this is just an assumption, maybe it isn't even that big of a deal.

And another thing to think about is measuring everything correctly before you start welding - to make sure the wheel wells sit at the right height above your wheels.. So that when it is all said and done and the car is on the ground with full weight of the interior and everything - even an inch can be a huge difference and you don't always want to go with adjustable suspension.

The biggest problem with building an AWD Honda (in my opinion) is that the car is impossible to replace. If it gets in an accident - you are screwed.

Any cutting will likely compromise the integrity of the unibody. I don't think I would be comfortable in a car that has had such extensive work done without a full cage inside (including floor bars).

Mitsubishi's setup would likely be easier to fit than Subaru's, as the Mitsubishis use transverse-mounted inline four cylinder engines, just like the Accord. Subaru's boxer is a very different shape.
Also, a car like the Galant VR4 (which shares much of it's driveline with the turbo/AWD DSMs, as well as the early Evos) has similar dimensions to the Accord, so it would serve as a great template.
Of course, the Galant VR4 is very similar to the CB7 in very many ways stylistically... it'd probably just be easier to buy one of those!

There's always the potential for twisting a body shell when you cut a major part of it out, you need to weld in braces to keep it from twisting.

Thats the problem with any custom car, the most you can do is replacement value insurance.

I've seen this done with a 52 Merc body on a 96 regal floorpan, it was really well done, you couldn't tell unless you looked underneath or popped the hood and saw the sideways 3800 SC. The guy even fit the complete Regal coupe interior in the Merc body. Its possible just takes work and a plan. My problem with doing this with an Accord is that you are still left with something that looks like a 90's Legacy, most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

Very true. A 90s Legacy or Galant VR4 would offer AWD, plus turbo... with a very similar body style. There was an AWD Camry as well, though it wasn't at all sporty.
