Have you ever concidered looking into a luxury car for her? Lexus IS300 maybe? Safe, comfortable, very attractive (like any good wife!) and if you had to take it to the grocery store, you could still enjoy it, too. What about a Benz or BMW? All of those can be had for a good price with low miles. Still comfortable. Still reliable (Just don't beat the piss out of them!). And all can still be fun if you ever had to drive it. Nothing embarassing about driving a newer benz, bimmer or Lexy!

Just some things to think about! Definitely keep us updated... Us car guys do love cars!
A benz or bmw everyone has one :shakeshead: Most of them are ran into the ground unless you buy them new and think about it having a baby on the way the luxury cars are a no,no sure they are nice but the maintenance. One starts looking into cutting costs to a certain degree not because you dont have the money because you start thinking about growing up.

OMG im getting old it's starting to sink in help lol. I would never own a lexus it's just not me I was never a lexus enthusiast then again I gotta stop thinkin honda.

Sell the SRT4, and get a 2000 Honda Oddysey for your wife and your baby. I've seen first hand dozens of 90's sedans with multiple casualties hit by a semi, truck, or drunk driver. It's better to be safe than sorry, I've seen some go for as low as $5000 as well.

Like $2000-3000 I think. Pretty cheap, def not much more expensive than a CB.

This isn't a tin can EG Civic hatch deathtrap we're talking about here.
CB has a crazy low shoulder line and really flimsy pillars, for starters. So physically it is just not as well designed to protect. Plus most CBs now, ESP in the NE, are beat to shit and the metal is fatigued. Manufacturing methods and chassis design have improved as well. So there are a ton of reasons why new cars are safer. CB was not exactly renown for safety... it is pretty much an EG death trap with a higher curb weight, safety wise.

I mean you look at the new Civic, its strange looking, but you compare its crash vids to something from the CB era, you can see it came a long way. Dude is choosing a car for his wife and kid, IMO safety should be the top priority.

Im going to have to agree that the cb is just as safe as any other car out there.

Of course if you go pick up something beat to hell, then it is just as bad as a 2004 beat to hell.

I don't recall hearing about a SINGLE fatality on this forum from this chassis.

Yet there have been PLENTY of accidents, even roll overs.

                  I don't know.

My wife tried to spit the same bs about it being 20 year old and not safe, but I think this gen were some of the best cars ever produced...which is exactly why people still drive them and buy them.

You want safety to be #1, get a Volvo or Saab.

It is just not going to be cheap at all.

And obv there is everything in between.....

im just saying, its not as bad as some of you make it out to be.

I love the cars but I wouldn't put a wife and child in one.

Looks like a death trap to me.

Maintenance wouldn't be an issue for ya would it?? You seem capable of doing most work on a car on your own. Yeah, I agree, everyone and their mother seems to have a benz or bimmer lately... What about a Cadillac CTS-V?? Then you could rub it in Mike's face that you beat him to it!!

Really? I could find pictures of the safest car imaginable smashed to pieces like that. Pictures don't mean much without knowing what caused it. Now if they got hit my a smart car, then that's bad. But if they got hit by freightliner, that all don't look near as bad!

Mike, congrats on the wife and baby! You're growing up, bro...

I say stick to the CB7 idea. Cheap, easy, fun. A project car that you can enjoy, that won't drain your wallet even with a baby to care for.

Then pick up a safe daily driver for the family. Factor in comfort and safety, along with other priorities. Get a car that will have enough power and agility to satisfy you well enough, while meeting your family needs.
What kinda budget are you looking at? A brand new car, if you can comfortably afford it without cutting things too close with the family (babies are expensive little poop factories!) is probably your best bet. Full warranty, no abuse from a previous owner... you know EXACTLY what you're getting, and you'll be covered should anything break. Not to mention, you'll have the most up to date safety features.

If you can afford German luxury brand new, it's not a bad idea. BMW, Benz, Audi... all very good, as long as you get them new with a warranty. I love those cars when I'm not thinking about paying out of pocket to fix one with 100,000 miles on it! Of course, the ones with fun power output will be considerably more than the basic ones... and I suggest getting one with some power, so you're not tempted to modify it. (that's my reasoning with my CTS-V... I chose that over a 6 cylinder CTS, because I'm perfectly happy with the 400hp it makes, and i don't need to upgrade a damn thing!)

Volvo might also be a good option. They've always had a reputation for being reliable, and they're damn nice cars. Not very exciting, though.

Hyundai, and even Kia, have some pretty nice options. My friend just picked up a Kia Optima Hybrid for $22,000, brand new. It's an absolutely beautiful car. The interior is a hell of a lot nicer than my Cadillac. It's not a rocket, but it can get out of its own way, and it gets nice gas mileage. It's a very roomy car.
Hell, maybe a hybrid is the way to go. You won't want to modify that!

                              Thats not the point

And neither is it about the CB being "unsafe"

The point is, for the same money, you can get a newer, safer, more fuel efficient, equally reliable car. For what sparkle wants, I would imagine that would be a priority. Hondas are criminally overpriced in the used market, as well as theft magnets, and CBs are no exception

A CB as a project car is still reasonably priced, though. For a man that can own a modified SRT-4 AND a modified Evo, I'm sure an "overpriced" CB7 for $1500 or so won't break the bank! They're relatively easy to fix and modify, and they're fairly safe for what they are.
I still think a cheap CB7 to wrench on, and a safe, comfortable, reliable family car that DOESN'T get modified would be the best route.
