Get an Acura TL...sporty with 270hp and luxurious enough. Or you could get the older pre 2005 gens, they still had 260hp in the type S version and 225 in the base version.

If you're looking to buy a car to make an impression, the make itself is irrelevant imho.
Buy a good quality car that's in great shape cosmetically, and invest the time/money into making it look perfect. I'm more impressed when I see a 10-12 year old Camry/Accord that's clearly been meticulously maintained and cared for than a 3-5 year old "luxury" car with dents/scratches/etc.

Or an Early 2000s Lexus LS400 is a nice car. Make sure you get one from an older couple that only drove it on the weekends or to get groceries.

As for the Volvo... I don't even know the brand all that well, so it's hard to say. The good thing is that most people don't know much about Volvos, so you could get a low-end model that looks great (well, aside from the one that's essentially a Ford Focus...) and people will see a nice car. They're known to be very solid cars, even in the era that was heavily influenced by Ford. The only issues can be electrical (my old 940 had an electrical issue where i had no heat... never did figure it out.)

My Aunt just bought a 2002 Lexus LS400. My Aunts has 134k and cost her $8000. She looked for 3 months before she bought one. Nice car. Pretty quick for what it is i guess. I just dont think you can buy one in good shape for much less.Last edited by H311RA151N; 07-29-2012, 10:47 PM.

Nope it had just over 90k it was in over all good condition the 300c and charger are both more popular and ugly IMO, i would love to have magnum. You can find deals when you are not in a rush and deal with private sellers you are less likely from my experience to get ripped off aswell, but if you're an idiot buyer ofcourse you will get what you pay for.

These days, a larger, less-efficient luxury car can definitely go for less than it's worth from a private seller, for sure. Someone who falls on hard times, and can't afford to keep it. The dude I bought my CTS-V from is now driving a 1st gen Focus wagon. He did it because he bought a 300 year old farmhouse and he's renovating it. Money is better spent on an efficient car. Still, I didn't get my car for a steal. I paid what it was worth. Maybe more, considering things I need to fix... but whatever.
I think the original 300 is a beautiful car. The new one is hideous. Fiat ruined it. I think the older (modern) Charger was boring... the new one is better. I do love the Magnum, though. Still, a 300 gives more of a "luxury" appearance than the Magnum.
Although...
Still, like Accordwarrior said, a nice non-luxury car that's in fantastic shape will be more impressive than a beater luxury car found at a bargain price. Of course, I'm sure a Magnum will fetch the same price as a 300, simply because they're rare-ish... and most people seem to like them. Discontinuing that car was one of the worst choices Dodge has ever made, IMO.
I still think a 300, lincoln LS, or CTS would be the best option. Style that still looks rather modern (even though the LS was discontinued long ago... I feel it still holds up.) Performance that's not too shabby, and decent reliability (even though they're American.)
The Jaguar S-Type is very much the same as the LS. Though Jaguar tends to have problems, I'd think that it may be worth considering given the relationship to that pretty reliable car. Then again, you may not find one in the price range given the brand name, and any Jag-exclusive parts will come at a premium price.

I'd take a TL over a CG any day. MUCH higher quality interior.
I truly think the CG is the crappiest Accord ever made. I like the styling of it, but the interior quality especially... my ex upgraded from a 95 EG to an 02 CG... and I swear the interior of the EG was nicer! The CB's interior quality far surpasses the CG, IMO.
I drove a CL-S, and I wasn't blown away by the interior, though.
The best interiors I ever experienced (and I'm including my CTS-V) are my 92 Accord and my old 92 Volvo. The Accord seemed "softer" inside, but the Volvo's carpet and upholstery was superb.

Another guy i know had a brand new Lincoln. Siezed it up from oil starvation. Oil pump failure at 13.5k. Too bad because it was a nice car. Had a bad ass navigation system.

My dad has a 2001 Lincoln LS V8. He's had that car since about 2006. Getting up over 250 000km already.
Overall, in the timeframe he's owned the car, it has generally been quite reliable.
The biggest hiccup he's had with it was having to replace the transmission, which was due to a bent or broken mount which was binding something inside the transmission and eventually caused it to start slipping so bad the car couldn't even move.
Other than that, it's been a very good car to him, and even though I'm not much of a Ford fan, this car is a boss and that 3.9 certainly puts the power down. It's a sport luxury car, and sounds like something right within your criteria. Even the interior quality gets a passing grade from me. Impressive for Ford.
