yea, david stern reminds me of some nerdy elementary school teacher. football is my favorite sport, but basketball is #2. seems like everyone thought (owners at least) that david stern was a great commish- but of course jordan played during most of his tenure. he needs to take it back to basics and market the game, not the players. get people interested in the game, and then let them know about the exciting players.

lebron now has the #3 or #4 selling jersey in the nba, so it seems that at least the preseason hype is there. the cavs have a number of games nationally televised this year (they haven't been on national tv for quite some time 4 or 5 years i believe). the numbers, at least for the finals, were down so almost anything the nba can think of can probably help.

i appreciate mark cuban... hell, i wish more owners (in all sports) were more like him... he calls it like he sees it, gets on the refs during the game, sits courtside, wears a personalized jersey... hell, he's a fan. albeit with much more money than joe average. i hadn't heard of anything he said, but i would agree with the statement that the nba will benefit from the "kobe situation." why, 'cause more people will watch this season, esp. if the lakers are playing. whether they want to see him do well or poorly isn' the issue- as long as people are watching and ratings are up, the nba will be happy.
