Germany is relatively on-par with the US, Canada, and many other countries that are relatively financially secure (debt aside, Americans still have money to spend on luxuries), educated, peaceful, and, well... civilized.
German engineering is known for its precision, yes. However, the overall quality of it can be a matter of opinion. I don't know many people on here that will claim that they admire VW's reliability over the last 15-20 years... I don't know many people that would risk buying an older Mercedes Benz for fear of major electrical problems. BMWs are fantastic cars, for the most part (there are some models that aren't, but overall...) but that's the company, not the country of Germany itself.
Women? That's a matter of opinion. I don't know if any country can be credited for having more attractive people than others. The biggest factor is probably diet and hygiene, over anything else. A person in a country like Germany, or Sweden, or France, or Spain, or the US, or Canada... will most likely be more attractive because they are well nourished, and they still have all their teeth! That is, unless they are obese (and MY impression of German women, based only on stereotypes that I do not hold as fact, is that they are on the hefty side...)
Beer? Again, opinion. Some of the origins of common brewing techniques did originate in Germany, and that general area... but that does not necessarily mean that German beer is superior. I'm a big fan of beer, and I'll honestly say that German beer is not among my favorites. I think American beer is the best (and I don't mean Bud, Miller, Coors, etc... those are shite.)
Geoff, all of your arguments for Germany could be made for Japan as well, depending solely on the opinion of the person making the argument. Cars, women, ok maybe not beer (but the Japanese DO make the best sake! and that is actually more closely related to beer than wine.)
The American military is still the most powerful, unless China decides to arm their bazillions of citizens. The US is a very large country that has spent a good deal of money developing their army over the past 100 years at least. The US military has been active in one way or another CONSTANTLY, even when not at war. With all the worldwide bases and "territories" we have, we might as well be Imperial England! No single country could come close to defeating the US military. Any that have the technology don't have the numbers.
Ralph, I do agree that the Israeli military has an INSANE level of training, though. I don't know if the US would have too much difficulty crushing them if it really came down to it, but I feel they'd put up a fight that is easily on par with a military force twice their size from many other countries.
If this discussion remains civil, it may continue. Just please don't attack one another. Praising the Germans, even admiring what they accomplished in WWII (not the atrocities, of course, but the military feats, technological developments, etc...) is NOT an attack against anyone, and should not be taken that way.
