True... to a point. Keep in mind though, while she's advocating it, and she's the figurehead, she's not the one making the plans. It's easier for people to accept it as "Michelle Obama's cause", but it would run no differently without her face on it. They just wouldn't have her "brand identity", so to speak. She's a celebrity figurehead. Every first lady dating back to the mid-20th century has taken on one cause or another.

To say that "Michelle Obama is violating our freedom" is absolutely absurd.

Well i agree she is a figurehead and thus why people are saying "Michelle Obama is violating our freedom".

When something goes wrong or doesn't smell right, you will always look to the person running the show.

How much of it she is running, we don't know.

You can say 0% but i don't think so....id bet she attends any and all meetings regarding that campaign and she is the one going out into the schools and meeting with the staff/parents so to me she is just as involved as the "team" which no one sees.

Now i don't believe she is taking my freedoms but if they seem fit to inspect lunches down the road and ban unauthorized foods from a childs home-made lunch then that is taking away freedoms.

Take away vending and revamp the school menu but don't tell me what i can and canno't send my kid with to eat....thats too far....there is a line and that would be crossing it.

Since that is not going on now then i have no worries but i think people become over excited and worry that the same GOVT who can stir up all that hooplah in Arizona, and illegally wire tap home/cell conversations can also peek into your lunchbox if it seems fit.

Not much of a stretch....right now however, it is just hypothesizing.

Such a thing wouldn't be a federal matter, it would be a local matter... It would be at the state level at most... more likely, it'll be determined at an even more local level... probably within the county, town, or even school district itself.

Mike no, that is not what I said .. I can see how it may have been percieved that way,
but no .. I'm alllll for a healthy school lunch! But if that lunch was made at home by the parents,
what parent would cheap out on their own kids lunch?

I'm learning more and more about this story as each day passes.
They said today (on the radio) that no food was "taken away" that the child brought with her.
however, they subsituted her apple cider with milk. They also added in some McDonalds McNuggets.

Here is where I have a problem. Some people, myself included, are lactose intolerant.
I still drink milk .. but by no means like anyone else does.
My second concern, is the fact that the childs parents were BILLED for the milk and McNUggets!
          My Point?

Lets try this .. everyone knows I'm a photographer. I once shot an annual report for Bank of Hawaii.
It had to include one of Hawaiian Airlines' Boeing 737. Inside and out.
I once had to shoot an amtrack type of rail system in Germany.
I had free rein over both that airline terminal and the rail system.

Today? You couldn't get NEAR either one with a camera. For good reason also!
But do I look like some sorta terrorist? I have a camera (and I've tried this already)
I got a pod on my shoulder, 2 bodies .. each with BIG lenses .. I'm shooting planes taking off
at Las Vegas International. A cop see's me, askes me "wtf" I'm doing (i'm not even on property!!!!)
10 seconds later 2 trucks pull up (TSA) and ask for my ID .. long story short,
I helped make thier day a lonnng one!

Back to my point!!!! If we let these people start inspecting OUR childs lunch's,
then conclude, (based upon Celebrity Obama's standards) that meals brought from home ..
are sub-standard .. where ... will the line .......... be drawn????????

I can't photograph trains and planes .. and, I admit, for good reason after 911.
The patriot act is being used as a stepping stone to further push their weight ..
NO MATTER if it IS for good reason or not .. it is still being rammed down our throats!

What if that lil girl was lactose intolerant? What if she got sick? No one has botherd to answer this question.
What else does THIS say to the little girl? "Your mommy is WRONG, and WE are right"!!!!!!
That's how SOME 4 year old's MIGHT interpret something like that.

It's WRONG!!! Am I all for good eating habits within the edu. system? OF COURSE!!
But PLEASE! Do NOT tell my child, specially if I'm not PRESENT, that the luch we packed her,
is NOT up to standards! THEN, bill me for whatever YOU decide to subsitute it with.

Where does the line get drawn? What's next? They gonna tell me what kind of light bulb I should use?
They gonna suggest we drive electric cars? Owait .. they tried that already ..
You see? The more we let them get away with .. the more they're going to take ..

I did a bit of research the other night after gettin lamBASTED .. and guess what I found?
I wish I saved it .. but could most likeley find it again ...

60% of todays adults from ages 18-25 are all for a socialist gov. here in America.
30% are NOT .. which leaves 10% blowing in the wind somewhere ..

So .. most 18-25 year olds would rather be TOLD what to do, how to do it, and when.
In other words, it appears that no one in that age group, wants to do ANYTHING for themselves.
Well ok, atleast 60% of them .. pretty downright scary ...

And Ralph .. I miss ole Scott also! man, that cat could bring it ...

I've heard it on radio, and have seen it on television, not to mention, articles on the net
have stated that a .. and I quote .. "A Fed. AGENT" inspected the girl's lunch box.

            I have a 4pm meeting and I'm not even ready ... **poof***

Scott is still around. I think he's just fed up with the frustration that comes with dealing with opinion-heavy threads. His last few lengthy posts in such threads seemed to contain much anger.

Anyway, I don't see how Michelle Obama, or her efforts to battle childhood obesity, are directly related to one incident in one school.
I'm right there with you when I disagree with what happened with the little girl, based on the account you provided... but I don't see that isolated incident as being indicative of the entire program.

Thanks for the info on Scott .. and much appreciation for "being with me" on parts of this also!

I read what you and Monica have had to say .. she's a pretty articulate CB7 gal no?
And no, I won't be responding to B18, or anyone else who wants to banter.

                I simply started this because #1) I care about today's youngin's.
#2) This is a perfect forum to find ... youngin's.
And #3) I wanted to see what people HERE thought about such a .. well, an injustice IMHO.

And again ......... it is NOT an injustice to see that our children eat better and healthier.
It's an injustice when you approch my daughter with OUT me being there, replace her food
with what YOU deem proper, THEN bill me for it .. that's all .. in a nut shell.
Oh, and then ... go to Hawaii and order 25 pizza's for about hunderd people.

I also wanted to add (before I forget .. you know us old folks, we forget .. )

Nancy Regan did start that whole "Just Say No" thang .. NOW?
Now we're making legal in some states .. a small amount of pot, for your very own self indulgence!

                  How'd that work out again?
