Slang is one thing... words that have no official meaning, or words that take on another meaning... that's something that will never go away, and will always evolve with popular culture. It's only natural for people to dislike the slang of a new era, when they're still accustomed to the old slang they used. I still say "rad"... I don't care how dated it is!
The stuff that's plaguing the internet isn't really slang. It's a result of a handful of things:
1) txt-speak... people type with a full keyboard as they would on a (now outdated) phone. When texting required multiple button presses to get a single letter, shortening the words actually made some sense. "U" was easier to type than "YOU", and it also took up less space on a small phone screen. These days, such typing is pointless, since many modern phones have large screens and full keyboards. There is a 4 letter span containing the letters that spell "YOU" in a QWERTY keyboard. It takes even the slowest typer a fraction of a second longer to type 3 letters instead of just one.
2) Laziness. Largely the fault of autocorrect, people will misspell words carelessly, assuming their software will correct it for them. Not everything has autocorrect, and people often don't even bother using a spell checker, so the result is a careless jumble of letters that vaguely resembles words.
3) Street slang that does not translate well to type, at least not without proper care. Such slang could be used with minor alteration, and with attention to punctuation... but without those things, very often the meaning is lost. Spoken inflection is lost in the typed word, making proper notation and organization necessary.

This comes from society not placing enough emphasis on education in modern days. You can't blame people for their ignorance with regards to a proper education, especially when everything basically boils down to lack of education. If educators and politicians don't care, THIS is the result. I've watched schools deteriorate over the last 15 years. There are some people who try to keep others uneducated, and this is the result. Effects of the American culture being destroyed by those who plan to make others dumber.
Politicians just cut school budgets in half, and I'm seeing this happening in some places in America. Some schools barely have any resources for learning, and we continue to cut additional resources. I know people in the 10th grade who can barely do algebra.
I'll also state that parents can be the blame as well. Laziness, well, that's another part of it.The Lord watches over me!
