    What should I charge?

My buddys cousin needs a axle and tie rod and harmonic balancer on his DA integra. I was just wondering what would be a fair rate for all this. I never charged really to do work. I don't wanna over charge and loss the job and under charge and lose money.

Is the tie rod on the same side as the axle? And is this the driverside? I wouldnt charge any less then 150$ for that

Cut him a little slack seeing as he'll need to turn around and drop a bunch on an alignment.

If you have power tools, it's a cake walk. If by hand, a little more effort; actually, a lot more. I say about $100 or so, give or take.

                TieRod and Axle?

                Tools:
                36mm Axle Socket
                1/2" Breaker Bar
                17/14/12/10mm wrenches
                Nose Pliers (cotter pins)
                Pry Bar
                Flathead screwdriver
                Elbow grease...

Pretty simple job...I'd do it for a case of beer.

                Harmonic balancer...eh...

I'd say for a friend on a early saturday; $60, lunch and an 18pk.

A close friend or family, I'd do it for free if I had the time. Someone else, I really don't like to work on other people's car, so...

This is the way I broke it down.

                        Tie Rod : $20.00.
Axle : $30.00, and you know the axle nut might give you some trouble if you don't have an impact gun, I know, I know. Big ass breaker bar.
Balancer : Belt work (removal/replacement/adjustment), crank pulley bolt, huhhh! About $40-$60, depending on other factors.

This is also taking into account stubborn bolts, lube and cleaning, correct torquing of bolts via Haynes manual...

@ the dealer, he'll be looking at $250-$300 or so.

                        +/- $100 ain't bad for a stranger. Known person, yes $50 or so. It's a judgement call.

How long do you expect it to take you? A professional mechanic would charge about $80 an hour, minimum. I'd say half that is fair, as long as you can complete the job in a timely fashion.
