Yup, when they're old enough and it's an appropriate time to do so, I'd totally tell them. The older I've gotten, the more stories I've heard from my dad and my uncles.

Alot of it is told to me as advice, like "we used to do this, but you shouldnt."

i certainly will tell my kids my stories when they are old enough. my mom has told me plenty of stories about her life. some things that were good times she had. some mistakes she made and so on.
1997 Ford Explorer V-6 AT (what a piece of junk)
1993 Nissan Sentra M/T (front end damage, off road for now)
          1999 Mercury Mountaineer V-8 A/T - RIP (rolled: totaled)
1992 Honda Accord A/T EX - RIP (transmission shot: sold to junkyard)

uncles usually share more because they aren't really responsible for raising you up so I guess it makes those conversations easier.

Back on topic I'd be straight up with my kids, if they asked of course. I don't thimk I'd volunteer anything uless it was needed or asked for.

My parents never revealed anything about themselves when I was younger. Probably too busy trying to make a living with six kids. But when I hit that awkward age of teen to twenty I had a real hard time deciding what to think of them. I realized I really didn't know much about them. They started to seem strange to me I didn't know weather to talk to them about my problems or blame them for it. It was weird times so most of the time I was out.. making my own mistakes I guess. I am just now learning about they past and true personalities. Partly because I'm older and partly because all my brothers and sisters are pretty much grown up so my parents seem to be loosening up a bit which I really like because it just seems we're bonding better. Something we hardly ever did.

point is that it's never a bad idea to talk to your kids about you.

if i see my kid starting to walk the path i did when i was younger then i would sit him or her down and tell them how i walked that road and how my father opened my eyes and i would do the same for them.

I wouldnt dig up the past unless its needed

Yea , I think its just one of them things .You have got to be honest with your kids if you expect them to be honest with you..If you stay in the same tight nit community all your life its not to worry about what you tell them as opposed to what they hear as they grow. Which can be a good thing .

A man that keeps looking back can't see whats in front of him.

Im not ashamed of anything Ive done. Fuck, almost everything Id do again. That being said, I wouldnt exactly go to my parents with some of these stories, not because I dont want them to know (id prefer they didnt but I dont really care anymore), but because I think they dont want to know.

My kids and grandkids though they will know everything Ive done.

Some of the kids I work with already know what I do because I see their moms or dads at the bars or the casino. Plus I have some of the pArents come out and watch the street racing...one of the dads even goes and does a run or two from time to time and he has a G23 swap.....
