is there a right and wrong way to use facebook?

*keep in mind my galaxy s took a shit on me so i am using an unsmart phone. lol

    So here is my rant.
I find out early this morning that my grandma, who lives in texas by herself, has gone into the hospital again (went in just before thanksgiving due to heart not functioning properly). I call my uncle asking for details on what is going on. He is the one that flys out there or flys her out here once a month. He tells me he just flew in this morning and is heading to the hospital to find out. I tell him to keep me updated because i can't check facebook for updates regarding the matter. (Work restricts web use and i have a dinosaur of a phone). He says ok, and will let me know asap.

Mind you this is at about 8am. All day i don't hear from him and finally get home after work and hop online real quick to see if he has posted anything yet regarding her condition. Come to find out he posted almost every 2 hours (regarding my grandmother) since i had talked to him.

I'm pretty irritated, especially knowing now that she is not doing good at all. She is pretty unresponsive at the moment.

Have people totally diregarded using phones these days vs using facebook? Yes, facebook can be used for less important things but i would think that serious matters such as this should be communicated via phone/in person. Or use facebook after the details have already been discussed with family in a family emergency type situation.

Idk, am i just being rediculous or do i have a valid reason to be upset?

Facebook is originally to be in contact with friends from afar. Nowadays, it more like a form of communication within the levels of phone communication. Some people just overuse it.

.. and yes , you have a valid reason to be upset. I, would to be upset if that situation would come upon.

I totally agree with exploding cake.

Since my mom's family is all in Vietnam, everytime someone is sick like her mom, they call over here to keep her updated. It can be at any time of the day even at 3 in the morning here.

Facebook is very useful for getting information to a lot of people quickly and easily. My cousin just went into a home (she has MS, and it's getting bad), and all communication about it took place via Facebook. All parties, concerts, events, etc... all planned on Facebook. I'm at the point where people text me to ask if I got their Facebook message!
As long as everyone of interest has access to the Facebook info, then it's good, and an ideal way to keep people up to date.

I think your uncle keeping the Facebook updates flowing is a good thing... but since you told him you don't have Facebook access, and specifically asked for updates via phone, he should have done that for you... or at least asked someone else to do it in his place. You have a right to be upset, since you communicated that to him.

Yeah, i mean had my galaxy been working properly, i wouldn't be upset because i could've easily checked facebook. I do agree, fb can be good to communicate to a lot of people at once or people all over the U.S./World. That is the main reason i use it.

I guess my thinking is, it is just as easy to send a text as it is to make a wall post/comment on facebook.

For close family matters a group text or round of calls/voicemails is definitely the way to go. Using Facebook for such a matter would almost certainly require a large message thread, in my opinion.

It's not that there is anything wrong with posting the information on Facebook, but I don't think it's particularly prudent to place such information out there for all to see.

it depends on the person and how much he/she is on facebook. sometimes im not around a computer all day and i don't answer my phone because i don't like to talk to people.

but if you call the shop phone, ill be there...
