    Helppp!

I turned the valve off to service the sink in my bathroom... It has been leaking for some time and iv just gotten tired of seeing it...

Weelllll I fixed the driping but when I went to turn the water back on the valve started shooting out water and I currently have the water cut off to the house. I managed to loosen the nut behind the valve handle but I cant seem to get the stem out.. Its a gate valve type shut off under the sink feeding the supply line

Help guys I wont be able to fix it till tomorrow if I dont right now and I gottttaaaa take a shower

Go to your local hardware store and get a kit to redo the seals in the valve, they are only a couple dollar. You loosen the nut under the handle and the hole piece comes out and you can see what you have to repair.

Is it a compression fitting? Did you try to reuse? Reusing a compression fitting is a no go, and would cause similar issues. Generally speaking, there only good the first time you tighten them down. After once, it'll work most of the time but the lifespan is greatly reduced.

Replace it for like 5bux at hardware store

If its a compression fitting, and its leaking between the waterpipe and the nut that goes around it, its the brass washer looking thing that needs replaced. Like 20 cents at the hardware store

Good luck. I keep a sharkbite fitting with shut off in every size for situations like this. They work in a pinch but is never suggest using one as a permanent fix.
