New laptop, looking for advice from computer gurus

Time for a new computer but this time I want a laptop.

I want to be able to play Crysis1 and Metro 2033 maxed out

My price range is around $550-600 but willing to go a little higher

These are the GPUs laptops seems to come with in this price range:
    - ATI Radeon HD 4270
    - HD 4250
    - HD 6480G
    - HD 6520G
    - HD 5470
    - Geforce GT 520M

I don't know which card is best or if those are even good enough to run metro 2033

Also, some of them are Lenovo... They typically get lower ratings on NewEgg than other brands... What do you guys think?

    BAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

I'm sorry, I know you're inexperienced and that's why you're posting this but it's just funny to me the requirements people sometimes come up with. All of those GPU's you listed are just one step above integrated graphics, which is to say they are pretty abysmal from a gamin standpoint. I suppose at a low enough resolution and details turned down to "where we're going we don't need eyes" then you could perhaps get playable frame rates. Metro 2033 is a pretty resource heavy game for a solid desktop computer, much less a low-mid range laptop. Let us know if you find any alternatives!

not sure what you mean by inexperienced, I've been playing PC games since 1994ish i think... Im leaning towards 6470M or 6490M card.
There is a laptop on newegg with the 6470 for 499 shipped

also, if my expectations are that unrealistic, i wouldn't mind going refurbished or used

MSI has an ad in the newest game informer for their line of game laptops. I dont know much about them but you could take a look at those.

Whats the most youll spend to get what you want?

did some research and looks like i'll need at least a gt 555m to play metro on high.

i really don't want to spend more than 600-650

EDIT: Looks like it might be an Acer with a 1GB HD 6650M for $670 shipped. 17.3" screen too (that is a deciding factor as well)

          Thoughts?

Laptop or tower, you're going to need a pretty beefy setup to play metro 2033. I haven't tried, but from I've read, I wouldn't even be able to play it, to my satisfaction, on my home computer.

Indeed. It chokes my 3.2ghz Corei7, 8GB memory, and an HD5870 on high settings. I can do medium settings at 1920x1080 reasonably well though.

is that game that good to need a system more expensive than our accords?

The 6650m has 480 stream processors. Foamy's HD5870 has 1600 Stream Processors. I hope that puts things into perspective.

The stream processors are the grunt of the GPU. Nvidea typically has fewer processors at a higher frequency whereas AMD has more processors at a lower freq. Think of it as nvidea is like an s2000, low displacement, high revs. AMD is like a chevelle, low revs high displacement.

                    I didn't know that, thanks!

Anyway I ended up getting a laptop with the 6650m...
According to notebookcheck.net this card will run Metro on medium at ~30fps which I guess is playable. Though, from my experience, I always found some of those benchmarks to be way pessimistic... so I am hoping that is the case here.
but I admit my expectations were way too high for my price range... even for the 600-900 range... can't they stick a respectable gpu in a reasonably priced laptop.. i guess not. like the guy above mentioned, you can buy a damn car with that much lol

I have a zero experience with Metro 2033 but I can tell you this.
Crysis is one of the most demending games for a computer to run to date.
I have a custom computer I built that has a HD 5870 (fastest single AMD GPU last generation) and I cannot run it maxed. If you want to run Crysis maxed you will need to spend at least $1500 for laptop especially. You'll be playing those games on low maybe medium settings with specs like those.

midrange laptop resolutions vary a little, but here is something to go by.
