opinions on which accord to get please

Hey guys, I need to get a commuter car. I blew a tire and grenaded the diff so the truck is down for a while. My friend has a 86 accord lxi 5 speed for$ 1200.00. A customer also wants to sell me his 92 accord ex. Its an auto. Both are 4 doors. The 86 is in really good shape and runs great. The 92 has all new steering and suspension but most of it is ebay stuff. He is asking $1200.00 for the 92 as well.

I need a car soon but don't really know much about the 86 model. Think its worth$ 1200.00?

    Give me some advice

Are you sure he is your friend?

Still slightly overpriced... Depending on miles.

1200 for an '86? I wouldn't offer more than 400 tops and a six pack of root beer.

Thanks but more or less looking for opinions on the 86 accord more than anything.

I don't mind paying the money because I know they are in good shape.
p.s. considering im dropping between 3-4 grand just on tires for my truck money is a relative thing.

Back on topic, are older accords as easy to mod and tune as the cb and cd ones I have now? Give me some feedback please.

Naturally, I say go with the cb7. Most other members on CB7tuner.com will agree with me.

Its newer, more loved (by me), and has a great community to go along with it.

I would definately assume that it has a very small aftermarket. If you thought that the cb has few choices, then try to find things for that 86.

But thats just my opinion. More things need to be taken into consideration, like mileage, condition, and purpose of car.

But then again, 5speed > auto

is that 86' fuel injected? I'd get the CB7, way easier to maintain and well, I don't know of any forums for 3g accords as big as cb7tuner lol

Well I would get a cb if I was given the choice plenty of parts to go around. Thats just me but I move on above that crowd but go figure. But I can never forget the experience and the knowledge I have gained from the car.

If that Accord is carbed, leave that thing where it sits and get something much easier to work on. Parts will be easier to find as well. Just because both of them are in good shape doesn't mean they aren't gonna break.

I thought that too when I bought an auto civic....but if its gonna be commuting on the highway all the time it doesnt matter all that much since your gonna be in 5th most of the time anyways.....and auto does suck balls

not to sound like a dick...

But if you can afford to spend 4grand on tires, just get a 2008+ Accord for a commuter. Why bother with old cars that have worn out suspension and are unsafe/unreliable until you put some wrench time in?

And $1,200 for an '86 Accord would only make sense if you were a die-hard 3rd generation Accord fan (which there is nothing wrong with that) but you can buy a much never Accord for 1,200... basically CD and CG price range.

                        I own an 86 and a 92 myself.

If you want a car to modify, I say get the 92. If you want a car just to drive, I'd go with the 86. It sounds like it's in better condition, and they're actually quite simple to work on.

Skeet Skeet, lxi is fuel injected.
