Leaving wet clothes in the washing machine...

I have a REALLY bad habit of doing this! I hate it. This time of year, one afternoon in the hot basement, and the clothes stink. I don't trust leaving the dryer on when I'm not home, so I try to wash the clothes only when I have an hour afterward to dry them!

Anyway, I did it again... with 5 of my best shirts and my only other pair of decent jeans... I'm washing them now for a THIRD time, with hot water and an extended rinse cycle.

Does anyone know of any tricks to get that funky moldy smell out of wet clothes?

Whats the deal with not doing laundry(dryer) when not home?

I mean, yea i know its an appliance that could lead to a fire etc....

I don't own a home, so maybe that's why, but i know how much i loved my cb, so i can imagine not wanting ANYTHING to go wrong with a house....but sometimes you gotta do what ya gotta do.

As far as the clothes, gotta rewash them....nothing else will get that smell out, trust me.


As far as the dryer, just make sure your wiring is up to date and the lint filter is clean(biggest cause of fires among dryers) and you'll be fine.

you could always hang dry just get an indoor drying rack.....

(dont have a clue on the smell though...)

I do this all the time all I do is put in rinse cycle put a cup of Downy and let it rinse and I'm good to go no more funky smell. That works for me

Mix in some bleach enough to kill the bacteria but not ruin your clothes.

Finish your garage, and hang your washing in there
And use Baking soda as said above.

My mother is a dispatcher for the fire department, and dryers catch fire ALL the time... I don't leave iet running when I'm not home either

Does your washer have the cycle signal option, with a loud, annoying buzzer when the load is done?
That's how I keep from forgetting that last load.

Put it on the hot setting, once its full-add about 1\2c. white vinegar (in addition to soap) It will get that mildew funk out of week wet towels.

Also, if you have a garbage disposal that stinks, run it and pour a cup or two of vinegar in with the water running.
Smelly no more.
