I have been pondering the idea of installing a portable a/c unit inside my wagon. I did a search for a complete a/c system for my car and it ended up being $1200. We all know that Honda a/c SUCKS so a junkyard system is definitely out of the questions. So I need an alternative to the windows down and 55mph for my a/c this summer.
Here is my plan. Ill need a power inverter large enough to power the unit. These units are energy efficient these days and don't use alot of power so drain on my battery and strain on the alternator shouldn't be too much of an issue. I ran a 1000w sub amp back in the day and I didn't have electrical problems so this should work fine. The next task is to find a self contained unit that holds its own water while it runs and doesn't use an exhaust pipe. If I have to run an exhaust pipe I am sure I can figure out a way to mount it to my driver window. My next challenge would be to find a way to sit it on top of the folded down seats without it flying all over the place. I don't ride anybody around so doing without my seats wouldn't be a problem. This would also solve my fogging problem when it rains since it will act as a dehumidifier as well.
Installing the power inverter would also be awesome to have when I need to use my electric impact for my mobile repair festivities. I will be running the proper gauge wire straight from the battery to the inverter on a switch of course. All I know is that I am absolutely DYING to have a/c in my car. Installing a new compressor, lines, condensor, and all the components is out of the question. Another reason I am trying to accomplish this is to have a portable a/c for my camper that I can just quickly yank out of my car and stick it in the camper.
If you have a negative comment, I am asking you nicely to please keep it to yourself. Its not like I am installing a window unit in the back window or destroying something. I need ideas and feedback on how to accomplish this the best way possible. Thanks.
