Condensers rotting out is a common problem as well.

Why would a condenser rot out?

But the a/c system is made of aluminum and is very very clean?

By rot out, I assume he means due to damage.
The condensers are well known for failing due to damage over the years from rocks, bugs, roadkill etc hitting the core and damaging/weakening it.

i pulled my a/c unit out. I have all the parts still. Tried to sell on Craigslist but nobody bought it. 140 for everything if you interested, its a stock unit and had 180k miles on it when i took it out. it runs great, no leaks and blows ice cold.

Must be a east coast thing.
What makes me laugh about forums, is that no matter how much you try to help someone, they dont take the advice. Go ahead and do it the hard way.

You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!

I replaced ALL of the seals. I pulled apart the entire front end and checked for the leaks and found none. The only place we suspected was either the compressor had a weird leak when it ran or the evaporator had a leak on top where the sniffer couldn't reach/smell. Like I said, I couldn't find the leak and the 3 shops couldn't find the leak. UV die was added and no leak was found. The previous owners to me had tried finding the leak with no such luck. Once again, Ive owned the car six years, The first 4 consisted of trying finding the leak off and on and who knows how long the previous owner had this problem. I just got mad and ripped it all out. Ill need to start fresh and find all the lines and other components at pull a part.

i lived in Vavaville for 11 years and my old Impala's condenser rotted out due to build up of leaves/dirt/water at the bottom of the mount.

you're doing something wrong then. Are you trying to tell me your freon is just magically not working? its leaking some where and you know it. You even doubted your own compressor.

Like I said you could of replaced seals and not have them seat properly or improper seals. I even seen a few stealership seals go bad. So was it ever cold after they refilled it? Did they put the appropriate amount of freon in it? There is 2 main reasons why it wont be cold, one is the expansion valve, and contamination. If it was cold initially then slowly decreased then its a leak. But if it never got cold period then its something else.
