No offense but you're just doing something wrong then. A computer shouldn't get loaded with spyware to begin with.

I felt this way too, but when I started doing computer jobs I realized that "regular" people jsut use the computer as a tool, like a toaster. They don't use a computer on the same level as us geeks. Like how my Mom treats her car. It's just a tool that gets her from point A to point B, she has no idea it's specifics or how it works. She has no clue whats under the hood or how an engine runs. If something goes wrong she doesn't know why, she doesn't take measures of preventive maintenance. It's the same with computers. People don't run PM at the same level or at all. It doesn't make them bad people, we're just geeks All the computers I've fixed up were eaten up with problems (including adware/spyware, and countless others) so bad that I was honestly shocked and a bit appalled that someone could let it get to this. I came to realize after a couple jobs that "regular" people don't use computers the same way a geek like myself does. It doesn't make them a bad person because they view the computer on a much less personal level. Is that an acceptable reply?

where you been, is something wrong?
i try to just smile, and say everything’s fine.

Yeah, you're right. Tho it takes about 5 minutes to go dl and install MS' new anti-spyware beta which I've found to work quite well.

Just makes me glad I don't have to work on "regular" peoples' computers. It would drive me insane.

I like doing it, but if I had to do it as a full-time job it prob would make me crazy, but any customer service job makes me crazy after a while. It's good to do it a couple times, because otherwise you start to sound like "Nick Burns, the company's computer guy" from SNL, ridiculing people for their inexperience which most computer people sound like, lol. Oh, and by the way, You're welcome! *said snobishly*

The closest I get to that is helping people at work. I don't know what I've done but somehow they hardly ask me anymore and I certainly don't offer. Fine by me

Try... Start>Control Panel> Add or Remove Programs. Usually you can take it out through there if you see something foreign, then hit up on adwear or whatever.

IMO...... i think that those programs to remove spyware and addware dont work!
i use to have tons of spyware on my pcs and i would just re-format my comps to get rid of them! but they still kept coming back!

So here is what i came up with.

Reformat! Save what u want and split ur drive up!...aka... partition it.

the first drive would be used just for windows and programs! and the second drive to save all ur important data! and the main thing dont use internet explorer to browse! i use Mozilla.....u can get it for freee at Mozilla and use this! Since ive been using this no problems wit any of my comps! This keeps out everything... pop ups... spyware..etc! infact one of my comps is not even using any anti virus or firewalls and it is fine! and most of my comps are on for 9-24hrs a day! but on the average 12 hours and i am fine! spyware free and the comps are running fine! so that is what i did! but incase u do catch something the best way to get rid of it is to reformat! that is why u should split ur drive! and then u can delete just windows and still have all ur important data saved on the second drive! well thats it..... that is how i run my comp and they are all fine!

This is exactly what I do and tell friends to do. I personally have two hard drives in my tower. The C: is just for Windows and programs. My backup drive is for all my MP3, movies, pics and Roms(arcade emulator files). So that way when Windows gets all fucked up, its only a matter of time before it does, you can just wipe the C: without batting an eye.

Saves you so much time in the long run. I also keep all my drivers that I need on my back up drive so I don't have hunt around for them after reformating.
