Anyone notice - video games related

That a lot of these newer games are being released where to play online you need to have a "pass"? A lot EA games require you to have one, NFS hot pursuit, and then I just read that Homefront caps you at level 5 until you purchase this so called pass or buy it brand new to have one.

I'm sure it's a way of making residual income on games... and for combating piracy.

it kinda sucks, but at the same time, it makes sense.

That's a good point but kind of defeats the purpose of buying a used game.

Very true. Though the developers make no money on used games. This way, they do!

I think soon games will all be downloadable, as distributing them on discs and cartridges (does anything even use a cartridge anymore?) is becoming too costly and cumbersome. I woudln't doubt that games are going to end up being fairly cheap to buy... even free... but they'll have in-game purchasable content. Many iPhone games work that way (which is actually kinda cool...)

I would hate giving up on my box art and instruction manuals but it drops the by a significant chunk I guess I could in.

Yeah, I agree. I'm the same way with music. I have CDs that I love just that much more because they have amazing cover art!

Yup. So many of those MMO games are free to play, but if you want anything good, you have to pay.

I have yet to find one worth paying for, though.

I used to pay to play on ragnarok online but have since switched to pservers, kind of wish someone would crack final fantasy 11.

It just sucks that you have to pay to play on xbl. And then you get penalized for buying a used game.

80? I thought games were pretty much capped at 60?

not if you get the metal cased ones that come with extra content that the basic versions don't get.
Those normally run you like 75 bucks and then tax. Don't even get me started about the Prestige Edition of the COD games or the Legendary editions for Halo...

That's why I get my games used on ebay months after their release for like $25. Thankfully, I haven't come across any of these that require extra stuff.

I try to get my games from Amazon now because they always give you a 10 or 20 dollar credit towards your next game purchase plus there is no tax.
