Last night I talked to some of my more informed friends, to be sure I was not talking out of my ass.

And I do have to apologize and make a correction.

If the burglary occurred on MY (or the OP's) property, THEN I could use force.
On a companies property, unless I am stopping the robbery of their establishment, I cannot use force.
In general public areas, unless I see a crime that threatens my life, or another's life, I cannot use force.
Location seems to be important in these cases.
So, even had OP had a gun, he could nor have shot the guy. He could have brandished, trying to get the perp to cease his burgle, but not shot at him.

I've had my car broken into countless times and has multiple shit stolen from it. I personally have NO SYMPATHY for fucking scum of the earth thieves who think they can take someone's property that they worked really hard for. If it was legal, I'd shoot the shit out of the thief in MY CAR and watch as he tries to flee so he could regret the day he even thought about taking shit that didn't belong to him. As far as equal punishment goes, cut their hand off and they'll learn their lesson.

where im from the entire neighbourhood participate in the execution of said criminal in the streets and the cops might get there when hes half dead but they have to wait till hes fully dead then shovel the remains into big garbage bags

Yes. Yes they do. Why don't we kill people who smoke pot. pot is illegal but I know that more than a few members on here part take in that. A crime is a crime. Just because someone feels personally hurt by what a thief does doesn't make them Judge, Jury, and Executioner.

Your argument could be that "pot doesn't hurt anyone else" but drugs are smuggled into the country and look at all the deaths around the border. Mexico and the drug cartels. Drugs do affect people and anyone who gives those people business is not only breaking the law but supporting what these drug cartels do.

I'm not getting into some big drug cartel argument because the OP had has radio stolen and he did something about it. I stated before, I too would do something similar if not exactly the same. My concern is how adamantly people feel their right is to shoot a thief when their life is not in danger.
