    Overnights

Starting the second week of my overnight shift. I'm alone at the office from 3am - 7am and its creepy as hell. lol. The things we do to get promoted. I took this shift because it was a chance to get in Network Support, I do it all. I'm Supervisor/L1/L2 and all for a $1 extra an hour. At least its only 4 days a week, but 10 hours a day.

Who else works a crazy overnight shift? How do you adjust your schedule on your days off?

I used to work nights at UPS. I'd have work from 10-3ish, go home and go to sleep around 7. Get up at 2-3 and do it all over again.

I didn't like working at night though. It seems like the days just go way to fast.

i love working nights! not that i do it often...but when i have to...i find i save myself a shit load of money! friday/saturdays at a club/bar is easily 500$ + so when i get that emergency call to get my ass to work im dancing!

as long as i get 4-7 hours of sleep within a 30 hour period...im good to roll!

Well with having 3 nights off a week that 4 days! its great. I work from 11pm to 9:30 am, so when I get out on my last day of the week I just stay up all day and then pass out at 9 - 10 pm and I'm back on days for 3 days. Then its back to work on saturday night.

Of course its temporary for about 6 months or until I get sick of it, gotta prove my L2 skills so I can get that real promotion.

Lately I've been making swap runs from 8 in the morning, that last well into the next morning 3 to be exact. I recently did two in a day, one to Waterville ME- then came back to the dealership and had to head out again on a second for our Chevy store. Been doing this quite often lately, the other 3 days out of the week aside from pulling long days of driving is being on shuttle. Combine all of them, and it's quite tiring.

            Thank god no overnights here

            life is good.

with my job I often have overnight shifts (midnight-8am). To get back on a "regular" sleeping schedule I will sleep for about 4hrs when I get home from work, then stay up until say 10pm then sleep alllll night till the following morning and I am back on track.

What I don't like is when I am scheduled for an overnight shift (3rd shift, midnight-8am) then scheduled to work 2nd shift (4pm-midnight) and THEN scheduled to work 1st shift (8am-4pm)... It ends up being 8hrs on, 8hrs off, 8hrs on, 8hrs off, 8hrs on. During the 8 hrs off I only get about 5hrs of sleep. Scheduling fail.

Even if I have a solid week of overnights I can't get used to the schedule. I always end up with at least a day of being awake for more than 24hrs. And some days have less than 4 hrs of sleep.

              meh, the money is decent.

Guy who does the schedules there is clueless. Or is there an underlying reason for the schedule flipflops? Its a good way to get people to walk out of the job

I used to do an 8pm-4am shift for a couple of months...

How did I handle it? The 10% salary differential they gave me! It amounted to about $250 extra each paycheck.

I work for a small company with tight, but not small, pockets. So yea I get a $1 shift differential, and according to the other guys that did the overnight shift, I was lucky to get that

I used to work the 3rd shift at a grocery store, we make the store look nice, stock the shelves, clean the floors and a number of other things. It was fun at first because the guys you work with are your friends. The only good thing i liked about the 3rd was that you weren't bothered by managers and you always had a lot of money on account all the stores were closed when you were awake.

My best friend used to work nights for the cable company (customer service... so basically he played Gameboy and PSP all night...)
He was my roommate at the time, so it was great. We never saw each other, and I woke up every morning to a clean house!

The closest I did to nightwork was being a waiter. That's more like 2nd shift. SUCKS!

I'm on call 24/7/365...never know when I work...I wrk nights most often tho

The shitty part about nights for me is usually my next shift will be a day (usually am working 24 hours after my last shift ended)...so the turn around is brutal...I usually just sleep all day then go all night-day then pass out hard
