    my drum set

well i just wanted to share with you all my other passion, among many MANY others. this is my yamaha stage custom 6-piece drum set with a variety of sabian cymbals. i was in drumline in high school and i've been playing set at church for about 8 years now but i still don't consider myself to be a "good" drummer compared to some of the talent out there. here are some pictures. i apologize for the poor quality.

lastly, check out what it says on my throne.

as far as other instruments, i also have a yamaha guitar. anyone else out there play instruments?

            That's my main setup. Its a 1985 Tokai AST-56 with a Marshall 30 watt 2 channel.

I guess my guitar is rather rare as other than the slight variations in design its a perfect clone of a 56 Strat. Fender actually had litigation against Tokai for such a perfect clone, before actually bringing Tokai on to produce some of their guitars for different markets. Mine has an interesting history. My cousin actually gave it to me. When he was moving into his rehersal space in Boston, that guitar was left behind by the previous occupant. He held onto it for a few months before he gave up and gave it to me.

I've had it since 6th grade, started playing in 10th, and have been on and off since. I'm not good at all, but I love it.

Right now the mods to it are just a Duncan Invader Pickup, a Pearloid pickguard and chrome knobs I have to put on, and a set of Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinky strings.

My current amp is that 30 watt 2 channel Marshall which sounds amazing. I've also got a really weird/vintage 100 watt Lab Series amp with 2 12's. However, the speakers that are in there are Pyle Drivers, but at different ohm value. One's a 8 and the others a 16 so they different volumes. Since that amp has no internal distortion, I have to use a Digitech RP200 effects pedal to make it playable. I also have a 10 watt Marshall practice amp as well.

I've had bad experience with Ernie Ball strings on both bass and guitar. My low E broke on bass when I had Ernie Balls on there...that just shouldn't happen, and has never happened except that one time. I'm a GHS man myself. I'm putting some D'Addarios on my project guitars here in a couple of weeks. My friend who owns a guitar shop reccommended them. I heard Invader p/u's were pretty good...what's your opinion?

I'm a Music Ed major, so I am REQUIRED to at least know the basics on EVERY instrument. As for what I play well, my main instrument is alto sax, followed by bass, then straight guitar, then tuba, then flute (not just the skin one either ). I'm actually building my own guitar right now from some parts I/my girlfriend have acquired. It's being painted at the moment...dark satin green. I'll try to get a pic or something soon.

i was actually part of the pit orchestra which was part of the battery (drumline). i tried out for snare but didn't make it. i could've been in the bass or tenor line but i said to myself if i wasn't playing snare, i shouldn't be in the line at all. so i stayed in pit, which simply is percussion. i played cymbal one year and also played in the jazz band after marching band for a bit.

sothea_sun, my influence in drumming has to be carter beauford of the dave matthews band.

as stated already, i'm very happy to see some musical talent here on my favorite board.

I never really had any issues with my Ernie Balls, they're cheap and they've treated me well, tho I've never played with anything else to compare it to.

The Invader is a fun pickup tho its hot as hell as far as feedback. Its probably not the best for clean as it sounds rather thin, but since I use the Marshall for the clean tone its not so much an issue. What is interesting was I had a Duncan in there oringinally that was lackluster, that's why I got the Invader, that an I really wanted a Tom Delonge strat back in the day (still kinda do). But as far as being able to get feedback and harmonics, I love it. I think when I rewired it, I wired it differently than it was originally supposed to be wired, but it make it a lot better. For example I can hit all the harmonics in the verse of the Used "Burried Myself Alive", a feat my other pickup couldn't do.
