I figure it at least lets them know that I'm aware that they're calling
Same here. When someone calls me at work and I feel the phone vibrating, I reach in and end the call, then wait for a break to call them back. I do work at a register too, and I can't say people talking on the phone annoys me. But then I'm extremely patient and usually the quiet type and have nothing to say to the same 100-times-a-day jokes anyhow. I feel worse that I don't talk to people, it seems to annoy a lot but I can't help how my brain functions. A lot goes without saying in my opinion... so I don't even think to talk! Makes certain areas of life difficult sometimes.

I pocket dial all the time, and usually don't even notice the person on the other side is trying to talk back. It's funny when the person I dial is standing right next to me. How the hell does this thing go into my phone book, pick out a number half way down the list, and dial it, all by itself? When the pad is supposed to be locked? I need a different style phone.
