    Need advice on new phone....

Ok so i don't usually do this as i try to make my own decisions but im really stuck on these two phones.

So my wife wants the Verizon iPhone....yay!!!

so were moving from TMO to Verizon....im not asking for opinions on this but since its a public forum im sure ill get them LOL.

Anyway the two Android devices i have lined up are-

    Samsung Fascinate-
    http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/s...eCategoryId=10

    Or Droid R2D2

    http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/s...eCategoryId=10

I have a keyboard now and ive had all touchscreen phones before so having a keyboard is preferable but i can do without one.

The thing about the Fascinate is the screen is amazing.

Idk so basically wondering if anyone has(had) these phones and their ideas??

The big killer for the Fascinate to me is that search is locked to Microsofts Bing(on a Google powered device blegh)

    So yea......go!

Bing sucks big swangin' donkey nuts.

The Fascinate looks on par with the iPhone in most cases. I'm biased, and hooked on my iPhone4, so my opinion clearly is tainted... but I'd say if you're going to get something like that, just go for the iPhone (oddly, Google is the default on the iPhone... )

The R2D2 is so incredibly nerdy. I love it!

I could never own an iPhone. Some major reasons are- can't replace battery, i have a 160G iPod so i don't need a music player that is a phone, and i like to customize my phone and even though you can jailbreak the Iphone it isn't the same as rooting an android device.

Well Steve would never allow Bing on any of his products lol.

The screen on the Fascinate is incredible...the colors are so amazing but then i feel like i just want a sturdy durable phone to be able to do what i do now which is text, call, and browse the web. So im probably going to go with the R2D2....shit is balla.

One big annoyance with the droid2 phones is that the ? is on the same key as the /

Why? Who the fuck uses / when they are typing on a cell phone? No one, i never have. My phone now the ? is a dedicated key so that is cool because i use ? a lot more often then / lol

          iknorite?

Ralphie, what kind of durabilty does the D2 have over the Fascinate?

A buddy of mine has a Galaxy and that ish is baller! It's bigger and thinner than my Eris and the resolution on the screen is OUTSTANDING! I liked my Eris but when i saw Avatar on his Galaxy my mind was blown! My next phone, unless i find something else, will definitely be a Galaxy.

I dont worry too much about durability but it is important. My biggest thing is probably battery time. I also like to have the ability to store/play music. I *dont* have an iPod(refuse to purchase Apple products???) so id like to be able to listen to some tunes occassionally. I love my Eris, i just want something a little bigger, a little thinner, with better resolution and maybe a better processor. I have a feeling the Fascinate would be all of the above.

Well having held both phones i can assure you that the R2 droid will take a little bit of a beating over the Fascinate because it is more solid feeling...in my experience a phone that feels like a brick will hold up better then a phone that feels like a tampon.

Now i swear by HTC phones...those are arguably the best made phones on the planet...ive owned 2 and i have 0 problems with reliability and build quality.

But i think Verizon has like one or two HTC phones and i don't like them.

So back to the Fascinate...if all you want is a superior screen, some music thinner, and better processor, then that phone would suit you for sure. I do believe the Fascinate is a little bigger then the Eris but not by much i don't think.

Actually going from the Eris to the Fascinate will make you blow a load...its such a difference in phones its unreal...im pretty familiar with the Eris...good phone...but its like my first Mytouch3G...way outdated....the Fascinate has a 1ghz processor...youd be like wait what?

So for me, i want the more solid phone and i want to stick with a keyboard for now so im going to play it safe and get the R2 droid....i read online that with 2.2 you can check an option for Google to be default search except for the dedicated Search key...wtf is that about?

So fuck Bing and fuck Samsung lol. Ive lost a lot of respect for them especially in the HD tv world so whatever. LG FTW!!!

As for durability...ive had my Eris for almost a year and havent dropped it yet. At least not on anything hard, lol. Like you said, i just want something a level or two better than my current phone. I like to keep things simple but i like to keep up with the times, too.

Id have to try one before I could decide that. I had flip phones for the longest time then i went to this so im kinda spoiled by this but i DO miss physical buttons.

Well Verizon lets you fuck a phone for 30 days before you keep it, so thats plenty of time to know if you want to keep da phone.

Hm. We're approaching the end of the 1st year of our...2-year(??) contract. I dont know if they'd give me a phone to try or what. I imagine as long as i got a refund if i didnt like it, then icould find something nicer. I just dont wanna pay money for something and not like it.

No you have to be up for a new contract i think, or an upgrade whatever its called.

You can't just be like give me a new phone lol.

When your up for an upgrade though, and you order a phone im pretty sure you have 30 days with Verizon....if you don't like it for any reason..you can trade up.

15 days is still long enough to know if you like the phone or not.

                            3 days tops is enough.
