You have to be careful, with these setups if you make a backup with one recovery, then you can only restore it what THAT recovery....you can't use one recovery to back up a different recoveries backup....if that makes sense.
It gets tricky, and i hate that i can't be there , because its such a pita to do this over the net.

However, when you root your phone, you should be able to find a ROM that is just like the stock phone, but - all the bloatware...so when you flash the rom on your phone, it will look and perform like it does out of the box, but not have any bloatware on it.
You can always reinstall the .apk of the bloatware you want back, or just install those apps through the market as there is usually a section for your provider(AT&T, VZW, T-Mobile)

I soft bricked my phone, and it was scary enough.
btw the mytouch slide was never meant to be a Android monster.. it was more of a ''sidekick'' replacement .. just enough to give u the android experience.

Ok my friend just got a droidx to replace his bb storm. He has been looking at ways to to increase his battery life bc the stock battery really sucks. He will have a full charge in the morning but it'll be down at 20% by early afternoon.
He's adjusted the screen brightness and disabled the wifi which helped a little. Does anyone have any suggestions other than having him buy a hi capacity battery?

I was playing with his phone and the DroidX seems pretty cool. We got it rooted using z4root and used the tethering for out ipods. IT wasn't slow or anything either using 3g.
I may have to look into getting one because i have an upgrade.

I am no longer a T-Mo customer. I switched over to Verizon because my wife wanted the iPhone4.
I now have the Droid 2(Star Wars special edition R2D2) running 2.2 stock, no sense, no hero, no nothing, happier then i ever was on any of the roms on my tmo phone.
I get 12+ hrs on a single charge, without root.
Since i have a 1ghz processor, the phone flies, without root.
I have almost no bloatware(except for the star wars stuff, which is cool with me).
I also have 8G of onboard memory for apps, and an 8G sd card for apps, so i have 7 screens, and 60+ apps, and the phone doesn't even hiccup.
What it comes down to, is TMO does not get high end Android phones. Verizon and Sprint do, so im happy.
And that Thunderbolt is no fucking joke.
And the 3G slide was not a sidekick replacement, as they are building a sidekick with Android....two totally different phones.

and im sorry to tell u but the processor on the mytouch 4g is much more powerful then the 1 of the droid 2 , plus u dont have HDSPA+ which makes a significant difference in viewing websites. you probably wont be able to tell the difference between the 2 phone side to side , but you cant say that tmobile has no powerful android phones because it does.
and i didnt mean that the 3g slide was a sidekick replacement, but it wasnt meant as a powerful android phone. i said it was a sidekick replacement because it was marketed more to teenagers .. thats why i waited instead of getting the 3g slide because i knew it wasnt gonna be a big step up from the mytouch 3g.
im not trying to put down the droid 2 at all because it is a powerful phone, i guess im just not a big fan of verizon.. in my area they have really bad cell phone service. im lucky that tmobile has 4g all over west palm beach. im not sure if the droid 2 can handle verizons new Lte .. hopefully it does so u can taste some 4g goodness
right now im running the thunderbolt 4g rom on my mytouch n its blazing fast n the vcast apps are the tits !
edit** took me a while but i found this chart showing the difference in 4g speeds. these comparisons are using the speedtest app. LTE isnt out yet but itll probably be near the galaxy s 4g or a little higher.

Na man, i sold the 3G slide to pay for the Droid and to obtain my HIDS.
What pisses me off about T-mobile is that they leave their customers hanging with updates.
I got my 3G slide over a year ago, and they STILL don't have 2.2
My buddy got an HTC Incredible a few months after me, and hes had 2.2 for a long time.
The Droid 2, started with 2.1 and when i bought the phone it came with 2.2
Verizon keeps their phones current, T-mo promises updates, and then drags shit out. I saw the same thing with my Mytouch 3g, and then with the 3G slide.
As far as the 4G processor being better then the Droid, its really a moot point.
You have the 2nd Gen Snapdragon 1ghz.
I have the OMAPP 1ghz......so really the snapdragon is probably the better of the two, but theyre both 1ghz and trust me this phone is fast.
You are right, im on 3G, but Verizon's 3G network is solid.
I have no problems installing apps, watching streaming video, viewing web pages etc.
And i have Flash 10.1, so for instance, when i post on Cb7 from my phone, it automatically redirects me and shows me my post, and all the smileys are animated.....so my web browsing is just like being on a desktop....no complaints from me.
Yes you do have the HDSPA+, which i was starting to see some aspects on the slide.
But it is a known fact that TMO does not have the powerful Android phones.
Dont get me wrong, the 4G is a sick phone. If i didn't switch to Verizon, i would have gotten the 4G, but compared to the Droid lineup and the EVO side, you have to root the 4G to get in the same league.....imo you should not have to root a phone to enjoy it, which is why i gave up on TMO. I wanted 2.2 and now i have it, and im happy.
Honestly the only difference between the Slide, and 4G, is the lack of keyboard, better processor, 4G, and the front camera.
The slide was not intended for teenagers, it was marketed to the same crowd as the 4G.
IMO they are all good phones, ill never forget me and you going back and forth and rooting my first 3g.
I loved all of them and i have a lot of respect for the Mytouch lineup, but i got really discouraged with TMO at the end, because they kept promising to let no phone left behind, and the fucking slide still does not have 2.2......why? Because they want you to upgrade.
Fuck them, what if i dont want to upgrade.
Ya know?
And i really want the Thunderbolt. HD video streaming and the speeds ive seen, are incredible.
Honestly i don't know though, i mean i can download the things i want, in good time, on 3g.
The LTE is fucking amazing, but for me personally, i don't necessarily need the speed increase.
The droid 2, is not capable of LTE i don't think.
I hover around the 2.00 mb/s on my speedtest app with about .80 upload.
if i did get the Thunderbolt, it would be for the kickstand.
Ill be working as a CT Scan tech,, and during the long scans or downtime id want to watch TV, but its hard without that kickstand, so for me, besides the LTE and HD, the kickstand is boss.
Some of my tech buddies have EVOS and they watch fucking tv with the kickstand, just sit back and chill lol.Last edited by Ralphie; 03-04-2011, 12:51 PM.

i cant wait till honeycomb gets ported to the mt4g, someone is working on it now and thatll be fucking sick!
btw do u know if u can root the droid 2? i know that motorola blocks the bootloader so u wont be able to flash custom roms .. that kills any chances of me getting a motorola phone , even though they are smooth while stock . htc phones are soo much easier 2 hack

I had to give it up because i was letting it get in the way of too much shit, especially school. Shit is addicting.
How far along is the Honeycomb port?
That will be an amazing rom, for sure.
No the Droid 2(R2D2) has a locked bootloader.
Supposedly there are ways around it, but as it sits right now, it does everything i would need it to do.
I have 3G hotspot(id have to pay, but at least i have the option)
I have DLNA multimedia streaming to any device that is DLNA complient.
There is hardly ANY bloatware on the phone.
I can make use of aps2sd, but it wont be much of an issue because i have so much room of internal storage.
There is 0 reason right now to root this phone.
It's kinda bittersweet. On one hand id love to run honeycomb on this phone before its released.
On the other hand, the phone works 100%.
I remember with rooting, you were constantly searching for a rom that worked 100%. If the blutooth didn't work, then the LEDS didn't work, or the battery drained to quickly.
Ah but it was fun lol.
