Actually, the Equus is pretty damn impressive. Hyundai now has two strong luxury competitors. They still have some rough edges to work out, and a market to win over... but holy hell, if they're not attacking that market full force! I'm wondering where the 2nd generation of these cars are going to take the company... Their initial offerings are almost as strong as the Lexus LS400 was when it first came out (and the Hyundais are entering a market that is far more saturated than the market the Lexus entered upon release.)
I'm anxious to see if Hyundai shot their wad with the cars they just released, or if they can offer a legitimate improvement in the next generation... because if they can significantly improve their already impressive new luxury offerings, they're going to have some REALLY nice cars. Granted, the $60k+ Equus will probably jump to a $75,000 car, to be optioned over $80,000... putting it in LS range.

They are definitely showing potential. They're not market-toppling vehicles yet, but they're hardly pathetic entries into a market that's brand new to the company, either.
It could go either way for them. If they continue to step it up, they could be VERY impressive. If they try too hard, they could fall flat on their faces. Still, Hyundai is a very powerful company... it's unlikely they'd do anything that would be a complete failure. Then again, VW is pretty damn powerful, and they screwed the pooch with the Phaeton... though that car was remarkable, it wasn't exactly welcome to the market... then again, VW has Audi as their luxury brand... Hyundai is recreating themselves to be such.

i am curious to see the future of the Equus. You can't walk into a Hyundai dealer and test drive an Equus. The Equus comes to you.

The Phaeton would have had more of a chance if it wasn't competing directly with the A8 (which wasn't even related to it... odd, these days!) It was also marketed TERRIBLY. I actually looked into picking one up... though repairs would be difficult and costly, I'm sure.

Hyundai is smart not to make the same mistake with marketing as VW... the Genesis and Equus are both quite visible. They're making SURE the world is aware of them!

there is an app that you can download for your iphone/ipad/ifuck/idroid that has an owners manual for almost every car on our lot.

i guess it makes it easier for the new age to know about what they drive around every day.

You have to be approved for a test drive. Who says they come to you? The loaner cars comes to you if your car needs servicing but that is about it. They don't want you in the dealership cause for the amount of money you spend they don't want to remind you that you are still in a Hyundai dealership, that and convenience.

Yeah but WHO reads a manual nowadays...

Last week over a two day span..I had complaints for:

- A lady complaining she couldn't get herself out of her locked car.

Conclusion? Lady it's called a LOCK and UNLOCK button.

- Another complained that they couldn't see anything behind them on the screen while backing up.

Conclusion? There's ROAD salt covering the camera.

I swear to you guys these events actually happened and mind you these are sub $25k cars (Accord EX sans Navigtaion and a CR-V with navigtaion), nowadays car's come with ALLOT of warning lights and options..and just working at a dealership (going on almost 2 years) you begin to realize the salesman just SELL the car without explaining the functions of what the car really does.

Something as simple as a low tire pressure warning light gets confused for a TPMS malfunction. I had a woman tell me she didn't know how or what the service intervals on a CR-V meant.

I mean you could spend $70K on a luxury car..but Think About it. Whos going to really pay attention to the iPad ap.

Think About It? I'm spending $70k and I'm getting a free iPad.

Ummm... yeah. That car also costs twice as much, and is a hybrid. The Equus is competing with the base model (actually, it's probably a better competitor for the GS)
