The CDMA iphone should have been made a "world phone" just like how the Blackberry Storm 1&2 was designed. I think this would've made the phone worth more being CDMA+GSM but then again I believe Apple flakes on revisions on the iphone purposely to cater to a service providers exclusiveness and also put $ in their own pocket for an excuse to add the feature to a future iphone "X" Honestly don't plan on taking this phone to another country like the Philippines where it's all GSM.

The iphone 4 is my last iphone I will purchase. I mean honestly what can apple do to this phone now? More memory and cpu speed won't do it for me. Remember 3G and a front facing camera should've been on the iphone 2G.

My next phone will be an Android and more likely the Playstation Phone. To me that would be the perfect balance for me since I play lots of games/emus currently on my iphone.

I will laugh when the Verizon iphone gets jailbroken and "flashed" to Metro PCS. I know it's bound to happen! Hmm $50dollars a month unlimited data/web? Whats cool about flashed phones is that Metro PCS doesn't know whats on their network. I have a motorola dumb phone IMEI paying the base rate for my Storm. People talk shit about Metro PCS but their service seems to do just nicely in NorCal. (I have 3 active phones)

    iPhone 4 16GB AT&T
iphone 3GS 32GB T-mobile network with SMART Philippines Roaming SIM
Blackberry Storm Verizon flashed to Metro PCS

    Conclusion:

Every carrier will have their pros and cons... Features, coverage or $$$ bill wise you have to get the right service that balances your lifestyle and whereabouts. Where I normally am in NorCal, I have more problems with T-Mobile at my work around the I-505 area...so T-mobile imo i could care less for.
CDMA and GSM are two different things. You do realize that apple have already changed the GSM components to the CDMA ones while managing to take up the same space right? iPhone4 = thinnest smartphone and apple plays off that. Tell me who would buy a GSM+CDMA iPhone that is larger and more $$$ when there is already a GSM version and a CDMA version. It is already a world phone, most countries use GSM. I sure as hell would rather pop in a SIM card than to contact a service provider and wait for them to switch over. CDMA may be big in the US but not the world. What can apple do to the phone now? Just wait and see this summer... I bet you that you wouldn't have thought about what the iPhone 4 had when you upgraded from your 3GS. I have a friend just like you, she expects way too much out of everything.

Verizon customers wanted the Iphone NOW so that's what Verizon gave them.. (a new phone on an old system)..... Verizon's LTE (aka 4g) service cannot handle the wide customer base that the Iphone would give them at this point in time..... Once Verizon builds their LTE network (probably a bit behind other cell phone providers) a global Verizon Iphone would be available. But that will be awhile yet i'd reckon.

      -2 cents.

The bit about the LTE not handling the user base is not true.

Apple says they didn't go LTE just yet because first-gen chipsets would force unwanted design decisions, and customers want a Verizon device now.
Like has been said, Verizon consumers want the device now....so it is here but without a lot of cool tweaks that could have made it a better competitor to the AT&T version.

I don't know what you mean by I'm not expecting too much... I know the difference between GSM and CDMA. I'm just ranting on how the phone was built. Everybody knows how apple plays it's game. They only give a sample of whats to come and let everyone buy their products...and then a year later they give it the features that it should've had that were missing. Ever saw the first generation iPad? Steve jobs had one with a front facing camera that he demoed at the keynote. Where the hell did it go when it was finally released to the public? Thats how they get more revenue. I'm just wishful just like anybody else...having the perfect phone with everything I need. Honestly I wish I didn't buy a iphone 2G until the iphone 4 came out. Now the phone is finally complete for my standards...there is nothing else that can be added to make me want to buy a iphone 4GS iphone 5 or whatever they make next. We know Apple will not add a built in keyboard because their touchscreen is their biggest thing, memory sd card expension...hmm maybe but most likely not.

Believe me they could've made it both CDMA+GSM. But they tailored it for Verizons network. Maybe they would have to suffer on battery size or something but they could have. They just didn't want people getting their phone and having the option to switch to a GSM carrier in the longrun.

If my carrier was Verizon from the get go (CDMA) and the phone had a sim option as well like the Blackberry storm. It would work out better IF and only my carrier was originally CDMA only based. Verizon, Sprint Metro PCS.

What I'm trying to argue is the fact that the Verizon iphone is what it is a CDMA only phone. So if you were to travel overseas.... see what i mean? the phone is useless. Like you said urself, CDMA isn't supported everywhere and GSM is the opted standard for most countries.

Someone who would by a true world phone are people who want to use different carriers at once. I have contacts in the Philippines and Japan international texting costs 25cents per text with AT&T. AT&T doesn't have a unlimited plan but only a 100text plan. My storm is flashed to metro and they have a unlimited international texting plan for $10 on top of my regular plan. That sure beats my $80-$100 old bills for texting alone to Japan and the Philippines.

Sure there are "free web based texting apps" for the iphone but believe me i tried them all and the only one that was reliable and sent text fast was Google Voice when international was free... I use heywire but that proves to be unreliable at times too. Peers get their messages sometimes instantly or 5-8min later isn't reliable.

Not Apple themselves but the chinese factories who actually "build" the phones for them have the know how of squeezing both technologies in. It's just Apple not letting them...but that doesn't stop them from making their own creations. There is a chinese bootleg iphone "3g style" that is thinner than the actual iphone 3G. It's actually almost as thin as the ipod Touch. There is even one that is a 1:1 scale that is dual sim and supports CDMA technology so yes it can be done if Apple wanted to.

Whats cool is that most bootleg chinese phones are dual sim and can run 2 numbers at the same time. This is not the case for a blackberry storm. To use the GSM network you actually have to turn off CDMA and switch in the network settings.

Playstation phone would probably be my next phone more likely. I admit i've been a Apple fanboy since the 2G but honestly the phone hasn't changed at all except RAM, Storage space and screens etc.

I don't doubt you, I know they will have some one off feature that will be cool come summer time....but like I said I'm a gamer. The playstation phone will be the perfect phone for me. One of apples selling points is it's touchscreen is the most easiest and comfortable to use. I bought a Nexus S for my sisters Xmas present. The touchscreen keyboard still doesn't feel as nice as the Iphone. I honestly hope Sony will beat Apple in phone sales or at least take a big chunk out of them....but I think this phone will only attract diehard gamers and not really business people.

Yea they could have made it both. They sure have the technology to make it so. Then battery life could suffer, features and components would have to be altered. Then people would complain. I don't doubt that Verizon would have an iPhone onto the LTE network where they use SIM cards, but that is just a thought for a later time. Then again Honda has the technology to make a V8/V10/V12 but they don't have it on any of their lineup...

iPhone now has 2 options, the CDMA one and the GSM one. Not everyone in the US travels abroad or have 3 phones. Most just carry one and use one carrier.

Can't comment on this because every service/app will be different. There is the option of e-mailing from the phone if you have data. Or good old fashion voice calling. If you were given a phone from your company for travels they would foot the bill.

From someone who works QC at a production manufacturing company that makes electronics, and someone who have purchased these bootlegged phones from China (was over there last year) they are not built that well. If they don't have hardware glitches there were software glitches.

There you have it! Marketing strategy. He more likely released the ipod touch to give people an option other than the iphone to have fun with the same apps. Not alot of casual gamers and movie watchers want to spend 500+ on a tablet device such as that. At that time the market for a "tablet" or should i say big honky and think "tablet pc's" was very slim. Jobs basically set the industry wide standard pretty much for all touchscreen tablet devices. All people now expect a tablet device to have a touch screen and pages filled with icons. I can't wait to see the finalized playbook and other tegra2 devices face off the ipad2!!

                HondaB18

Hehehe for the V8+ Honda cars...I don't think many middle class people would buy one coz there would be no market for it except for the rich and fabulous Honda will always be thought of as the king of economy cars for now.... I still love the 1st gen NSX and could careless about the flushheadlamps and circle signals on the newer models! But I agree totally, why change a good thing when little tweaks is all you need to keep customers wanting more. But then again you never know...people change. Steve Jobs himself said "CDMA is a dying technology" Now look what he created... money sure does make the world go round.

But I can agree. People will complain and these are probably the people who don't know how to balance a smartphones battery or had never power cycled their charges at all to get the most useage life. I bet there are people who still constantly use the 3G radio all the time when their phone is idle as well. Apple can't help this and technology will always be limited to what it is.
I don't think we will see a "4G" supported iphone until next year. If apple is playing the dice like it did with the 2G phone, they will wait till 4G radios become less power hungry and the technology becomes more of a norm. I'm very curious to see if a "iphone 5" were to show up would they implement a 4G radio to keep up with Android units. Apple wanted to please verizon fans.. I'll laugh if the verizon iphone4 becomes obsolete this summer. Apple needs to upgrade it's device definitely. HTC and Samsung phones are nice looking units...but the android market still needs more polished products apps to get more people to jump ship.

HondaB18 iPhone now has 2 options, the CDMA one and the GSM one. Not everyone in the US travels abroad or have 3 phones. Most just carry one and use one carrier.
True..but buying this Verizon phone means #1 you are a loyal verizon customer and will never switch or #2 You don't plan on traveling out of the country #3 you are willing to accept the fact that the phone won't be worth much as the GSM variant in terms of resale value.

Have you seen the leaked housing for the supposed Verizon iphone? That one had the CDMA revisions and a sim card slot. Who knows with leaks these days... probably just a prototype or maybe a iphone 5. Thats why I'm disappointed it didn't have it when I saw the official Verizon photos.

HondaB18 Can't comment on this because every service/app will be different. There is the option of e-mailing from the phone if you have data. Or good old fashion voice calling. If you were given a phone from your company for travels they would foot the bill.
Yeah I agree, but keeping up with people who don't have a data plan or a dumb phone hurts them. The Philippines is one good example of lots of people still using oldschool nokias etc and most use prepaid sims which is a real big buisness over there. I'm happy i have a unlimited data plan.Skype, Fring, facetime. I've sent oldschool 2G iphones to friends and relatives and took advantage of voip programs when they are at home.

                HondaB18

Nope there is a select few that have both CDMA and GSM radios in one unit!! I was shocked actually myself. I'm guessing since you bought a few bootlegs you heard of Schiphone, hiphone,i92 etc. There are so many variants with wannabe IOS homescreens or windows mobile. There are now "upper class" bootleg iphones that really runs a true iOS,true 2.2 froyo....AND true WP7 Check them out!! However the only downside is (as expected lower ram or processors some non capacitive screens) You gotta remember, they have the blueprints since they build them for apple so there is always that one person that will hack or tweak and make their own version with what they have.

What I am interested to see is if Verizon decides to be a little lenient on the upgrade period.

I know that personally I'm not elgible for an upgrade until 11/2011, and I'm certainly not paying $600ish for the phone.

I guess I'll have to wait until then. I have an iPod touch now, and I'm very pleased with it overall, and I think it does everything I need.

I currently have one of the only Verizon phones that has a keyboard and doesn't require a data plan. I've always told myself if the iPhone went to Verizon I'd finally upgrade. We'll see how the price plays out.

well this is good! I'm due for an upgrade this month. I think I get a 100 dollar credit. I HATE my Blackberry Storm, it sucks, at the time, it seemed like a good upgrade from my other non-smart phone LG flip chocolate, but that button txt thing is so damn slow and lags like crazy. I'm sick of it.

Nothing's wrong with my Blackberry, but I just want something new.

I'll probably look at HTC's phones...I hear they're good as well

Nothing's wrong with my Blackberry, but I just want something new.

I'll probably look at HTC's phones...I hear they're good as well
I would imagine the first model will 3G and then later or next year there will be a LTE revision. I read a few articles found through goggle about the differences of 3G and 4g and it seems like they won't be able to fully reach 3.9Gbps till at least 2012. Then again I have always been bad at finding credIble articles on the net...

I think the ONLY way I would make the jump to Verizon is if I could unlock that phone and use it on the Straight Talk network, since here in Omak, Straight Talk piggy-backs off the Verizon network. 45 a month for unlimited EVERYTHING. Yes, please!

did you guys hear that Verizon is getting rid of their "new every two year" upgrade credit program? I think it ends tomorrow on the 16th.
