    Totaled!!

Yep, My CB coupe it totaled!!

Guy pulls out in front of me turning right, I move to the left lane to avoid him. At the end of the island in the middle of the road, just as I came up next to him. He attempted a "blind" U-turn in front of me!! I slid under his 99 GMC sierra, BARELY crunching his bed quarter panel, as his rear wheel mashed in my passenger side front fender! HE, still not realizing what was happening is still on the gas. His brand new meaty off roads dig into and attempt to climb my baby like a schoolgirl! Then tearing the bumper cover clean off the car. Leaving me with a twisted, mangled car with perfect new suspension (just got the alignment an hour earlier). He got the ticket, and had State Farm!

Today the guys adjuster said it's totaled (which I knew). He estimates a $2000-2500 payoff, Plus my repairs and upgrades!

He also said I could take a week to remove anything I want from the car before they haul it off!!!!!

So, I had an LX.. But an EX or SE with fewer then 304,000 might be nice!

I hate the Nissan rental they got me but what the hell?? Only real issue now is my neck actually DOES hurt. We'll have to see where that all goes.

Like I said my neck hurts. But otherwise fine. Nothing a few months of chiropractor visits can't cure for $2000.

I'll get pics after the snow melts in a few days. However the main damage is the frame twist, and the front clip bending toward the drivers side. Mainly just looks like a corner crunch with a missing bumper. Subtly you can see the shift of the front clip. Plus the drivers door doesn't align anymore (Opposite side of the car).

I REALLY love that car too!! enough to get another and move my suspension upgrades to the new one for sure!!

You better get the insurance company to pay for those visits too!

          Yea, I agree!!

His insurance already had the CAR adjuster out to determine if the car could be fixed. However thus far all I've gotten on the neck pain, is a call from the injury dept of State farm. The CAR adjuster was a really nice guy, who agreed the car was worth over $2000. The INJURY adjuster was snotty and acted as though I was a CON man! My guess is they will attempt to get me to sign a medical release when they hand me the check for the car, but this is my first insurance claim. So, Not sure.

They are sending me medical paperwork to fill out, to thus verify the injury I'm claiming I have. However I AM NOT the type to claim lifelong suffering, and ask for 1/4 million or some crazy number. I WILL be happy to go see a surgeon if they try to pay me off with less then $2000. A few months of chiropractor visits will be FAR cheaper for them, then the sure fire surgical diagnosis I'm positive could be found with any spinal doctor.

The CAR adjuster told me they typically pay. PLUS they pay some predetermined "pain and suffering" as well as an estimate as to how much time you miss from work. The "accident" happened on the 23rd. I've already missed 2 days, mostly dealing with his insurance company and one trip to the chiropractor, plus getting the rental car. I could easily see missing a couple weeks combined over the next few months.

Sure was easier just HAVING my CB7. All this hassle should be worth a few bucks too!!

Thanks for the concern too. It's appreciated!!

            surgery? No, most likely not.

I got whiplash from a accident back in March, I was not at fault either. Go to the chiropractor and tell them you in an accident and you may have a neck injury. They will diagnose you and take x-rays if necessary.

Do not go to a medical doctor, I did and they took x-rays and told me nothing was wrong with my neck or back. So why was I in sooo much pain, I ask. Oh just take these pills that knock you out cold. After one pill I decided to get this insane pain fixed and went to see my chiropractor. Problem is now fixed, but you will never be 100%.

                Thanks for the comments!!

I know it's unrelated. However around 18 years ago I injured my lower back. A bit later (around a week) I woke in the middle of the night in Agony!! My minor pinch pain had worn through the casing of my sciatic nerve!! I was uninsured, working in a warehouse at the time. So lifting was a daily event. I could barely stand. Let alone lift and walk around.

I went to the hospital, where they basically said "OK, You give us $1200 for an MRI"! I said I don't have that kind of money. They said "Sorry,.. NEXT!!"

I then went to a private spinal surgeon. He had me lay on my back on a table, where he lifted my left leg, checked reflexes, Then left the room. A few min later he's back telling me he's scheduled surgery for day after tomorrow!! NO X-rays, NO MRI,... Just STRAIGHT to surgery!!

Needless to say I snuck out of his office, and never saw him again!!

Next day I met my chiropractor. Over three months (with occasional returns in the future), He was able to get me up and going WITHOUT surgery!!

This was my only experience with an actual spinal surgeon. Thus my only basis for judgment. Other then two friends with lifting limitations, and loss of motion after spinal surgery.

After that, I pretty much assume MANY spinal surgeons are just like any body else. If it'll make them a LOT of money, They'll do it regardless of IF it's actually needed or not. Many also consider Chiropractic to be a scam (which is a riot considering what I just said).

I'm not saying ALL Spinal surgeons are like this,.. Just that some ARE!

Last night I talked to an old friend I have not seen in a few years. During that time (two years ago). He was rear ended by a Semi truck. The insurance company tried to pay off his $4500 car with $700. He said "NO, you can talk to my lawyer". A few days later they showed with a check for $4500! Then tried to have him sign away medical to get the check! After refusing to sign away medical (thus NOT getting paid) he hired a lawyer. After a couple months (and some court time) he was awarded $28,000!!

My friend only wanted around $10,000 for the car, and some Chiropractic care. So, it would have been FAR cheaper to give him what he originally wanted, over what he was awarded in court!

Personally I'd be OK with $5000. My car is only worth $2500 max, and $2500 more would cover my Chiropractor for at least 3-4 months.

HOWEVER, I am new to this all. I've never had an accident, been injured (where someone else is at fault), or dealt with an insurance claim. So, like I keep saying we'll have to see where it all ends up in the end.

                  Two Weeks Later

Well, They totaled the car and offered me $2490 if they took the old car right then. OR $1690 if I kept my old CB.

I took the $1690, as my new suspension is worth more then the $700 extra, loosing it would have cost.

I bought a 91 SE Sedan, with 158K this last Tuesday (My LX coupe had 304K). I paid $1000 even, because of some issues. Like it needs all four Motor and tranny mounts. Has a Kink in the hood, and the radiator support was also kinked (It throws off the aim of the right headlight a little but otherwise unnoticeable). I'll straighten it up a little and get a new hood. Then all will be Fab!

HOWEVER the remainder of the car is FABULOUS!! Paint is nearly perfect with NO clear coat peeling. The wheel well rust is very minimal and doesn't even go all the way through yet. With a little glass, a good buffing and wax it'll look new.

                  As for my neck,...

I have whiplash! Chiropractor took Xrays, which did show my neck was a mess. The other guys insurance was calling me DAILY asking if I was OK (trying to get a recording saying I wasn't hurt). So I lawyer-ed up!!

The lawyer and Chiropractor both said I should get an MRI to check for tissue damage like torn ligaments, or muscles, Ruptured, or herniated disks. So I had an MRI. It showed/shows no MAJOR damage that would need surgery, just whiplash (I got the MRI on a CD too! Pretty cool having yourself cross sectioned on disk!!).

The spinal surgeon who checked my MRI was SO hot!! Which is the only reason I'd have, to WANT to go back. So it's good that I didn't need her.

Now it's all in the Lawyers hands. I've heard two years is a common time frame for a medical settlement (this is my first). So, unlikely to have any more updates for a VERY long time.

                  Thanks for the support!
