    citizenship for my parents?

I would ask a lawyer but they charge...

I'm 21 so that meant I can now apply for my parents to get a green card and apparently all I have to do is apply for it and prove that I can make enough money to take care of them.

My parents have been living in the US illegally for a while now. Which is why I was born here and all that.

I know that if i apply they will be penalized for living here illegally.

I want to know which takes longer having them move to mexico and start the proses from there or from here?
    Does it make a difference?

How long will they be penalized either way?

It's not going to be easy. The big problem is that you are an adult, so there's not really any qualifying reason for the Dept of Homeland Security to consider allowing them to have green cards. The fact that they've been breaking the law for how many years isn't going to help.

You should research for yourself and find out. I'd say going back to Mexico and applying through the DHS for a green card may be the best way, since being an illegal is a crime. Your parents are the people that the DHS is trying to get out of the country.

What my brother in Law did was start the process here he was then sent out to mexico and they penalized him 15 months. so in feb 2011 his time will be up.

i guess it all comes down to what you situation is. He just had his 1st kid and my sister dosnt make enough to make it on her own so she needs him here.

My god parents had a daughter who has health problem and they were not penalized(or as far as i know)

ask around talk to someone 1st that knows about this stuff

yeah my parent are fully aware of their situation so they know of a lawer I can talk to but he charges. Its probably the best way to go though.

        Thanks for the input.

Careful with some lawyers some of them really like to take advantage of illegals, if your parents have been here for over 10 years and have no criminal history they can technically apply for themselves, you can file for them and they can get workers permits for now until the application gets approved or denied. Hope that helps a bit.

the way I remember it when my dad put in papers for my mom, she still had to go to mexico (ciudad juarez aka death city aka where my grandparents live), she had to basically say sorry for entering the country and pay a fine..

this in no way means that they will not tell your parents that they will have to stay in mexico..the process is based solely on a case by case situation and what we tell you is based on personal experiences..

a lawyer will be the best place to go for legal questions, as stated before though some will try to screw you over and take your money and make your parents go to mexico and stay there for a penalty phase, so study up on the lawyer youre choosing and make sure they know what theyre doing..and also try to see if you can get a free for a consultation..some will say yes and some no..

it will be a long and expensive process..

              good luck

Shop around for a good and reputable immigration lawyer. You pay for their expertise, not something you want to skimp on.

Doing it right is when his parents chose not to enter this country illegally. I'm not voicing my opinions on immigration but that is the truth.

i hope you get this worked out. i think if the person lived here long enough and are NOT criminals in their home country and have contributed to society working, then why not let this beautiful country be their home too!
