    Plastidipped My Car.

I was joking before that I was going to paint my Talon with Plastidip but after thinking about it, I really decided to give it a try. Still in progress since I have yet to complete the front end conversion, but here is how it's turning out...I like it so far.

10 cans of Plastidip, plastic, tape and steel wool....comes to about $90. I'm still not done because I need foam tape to put some of the trim back on but that shouldn't run more than a few bucks.

thats pretty badass man, it looks good! my only suggestion would have been to fix the small dents (like on your passenger rear quarter panel) since flat black shows imperfections really bad.

its a product that adds a rubberized coating to anything you spray it on/dip in it. it is used a lot for putting a grip on tools. it has recently been brought into the car world since it does a really good flat black. i saw a gti in stl with a black plastidip skunk stripe over the summer

The taping and plastic was time consuming, scuffing it with steel wool was time consuming. The actual painting part wasn't that bad actually. After it was all said and done, probably 4-5 hours.

You CAN but it has to be acrylic enamel I believe. There was a test on the compatibility of Plastidip with other paints on 9gLancers...some make it bubble and peel off. BUT the cool thing about this is you can paint over it and then cut any section you don't want, to reveal the underlying color.

The drivers door has some damage because the dumbfuck neighbor backed into it. THEN they backed into it AGAIN and broke my drivers side mirror. He has his coming...and my car is now parked far far away from his house.

Also, let me make note that this stuff does NOT run. When you apply it, it dries evenly with no runs, sags, orange peel, etc....it's all smooth and even.

Looks nice! When you touch it does it feel rubbery? I'm also interested as to how well it handles the elements and does it help prevent dents since the metal now has a rubber coating? Not like big dents but like door dings and stuff of that nature.

10 cans, huh? How many coats did you apply?

                          It looks pretty good.

I'd be cautious, though, as that paint peels like no other. Apply pressure or friction, and that stuff is gone.
                          My pictures/photos will return soon...

It would take a LOT to fill it. Each layer is kind of thin.

Yes, it has a rubbery texture. I have had it on my Lancer's front end since February and it has seen rain, sun, rocks, dirt, etc. Still looks good as the day I did it:

Couple thick coats. 10 cans seems like a lot, but it would be your average rattle can job. I have yet to experience peeling on the Lancer. And I have washed it many many times, scrubbing the bugs off of it. We shall see....
