i was bullied for a year and i turned out just fine.

i was also only bullied til i hit puberty one summer and grew 7 inches in three months. dude didnt even look me in the eye that fall. all you need to do is be less of a pussy than the bully is, because 9 times out of 10, it isnt that hard to do.

and a little more on topic. yes it is horrible that their lives were taken, but is it still considered taken if its self-inflicted? thats like saying i stole my own tv. regardless of sexuality, if they were weak enough to take their own lives, who's to say, if they werent ***, it wouldnt have been over something else later in life?

Iirc all these kids were bullied because of their sexual preference and because of the overwhelming disconnetion they felt they took their own lives.

I'm not here to debate what part of their preference played a part of what's wrong or right but nonetheless innocent children died for no reason.

Because they didn't just choose to be attracted to the same sex. Nobody chooses that. They are attracted to the same sex just as naturally as you are to the opposite sex. You didn't choose to like women, did you?

However, you are not ostricized for it. Homosexual people are rarely accepted by society. When they are, it's very often in a "even though they're ***" capacity. Society teaches to recognize the difference. To some extent, that's fine... but it still focuses on the "difference". They are a minority... minorities are ALWAYS persecuted.

Children and adolescents are the worst, because that is a difficult time for ANYONE, let alone someone that has been told all their lives that their preference is "different". Not only are people of that age fragile mental state already, but other people that age are at their cruelest stage ever.

There are two major problems in society regarding homosexuality...
First, and the biggest, is the fact that it is recognized as "different". Homosexuality is nothing new, and not even limited to human beings. It's a fact of nature. And honestly, if you're not homosexual, and you're not raped by a homosexual... then it has NOTHING to do with you. Much of society condemns it... but I think the parts of society that glorify it are just as at fault. If we continue to make it a big deal that there's a difference, then people are never going to just ignore it and see "a person" instead of "a homosexual person".

Second, the people that believe all homosexuals CHOSE to be that way. It is not a choice. I don't care what anyone says... what research was done, what experts claim, "nature vs nurture" bullshit... IT IS NOT A CHOICE.
If it was, all those heterosexual people in the world would have had to choose that preference as well! I didn't. I've been interested in women since I was about 5 years old (I remember checking out the preschool classroom for cute girls... )

My brother who's in the medical field has read some really interesting articles outlining the severe hormonal imbalances that exist in many homosexual people, among other hormones, estrogen and testosterone have alot to do with sexual "preference" and attractions. Evidently much of the imbalances can be traced to diet, lifestyle, and stresses. Many of the homosexuals who decided to go through hormonal balancing measures, whatever that means, changed their sexual preference. Interesting.

If you believe in survival of the fittest then you MUST see homosexuality as a weakness because it can never lead to long term species survivability IF it's assumed those are the only relationships existing on earth. Darwinism states though that each individual member of a species that is weaker than others of its same species will eventually be eliminated and that the world is better for it. Looking at normal animals, Darwin states that those that cannot procreate, among many other attributes, are weak and bring the whole species down and will eventually be weeded out......not saying I believe it but that is Darwinism.

That being said, bullying anyone is wrong. I think it has alot to do with the bully lacking loving, caring discipline at home. The suicides are also a result of lack of support and uplifting encouragement from parents at home, some don't have a home. Frankly, when it has to do with immature children, I blame the parents more than anyone else. Their children are their responsibility and most absolutely suck at it teaching their children basic rights and wrongs, respect for others, self respect, charity, etc.

Society has forced and brain washed people into caring too much about what others have to say, if people cared less about what others have to say and more about their own happiness it would be harder for them to get to the mind state where they can rationalize taking their own life.

I've been bullied, i've been a bully and I know it wrong regardless. I didnt cry about, I got scared then I got mad then I got even! Quiting and taking your life is never the answer! Just remember, bullying the bullies is the same damn thing.

Its a damn shame that someone's words(especially from people that shouldnt mean that much to you) can cause you to get so upset and sad that anyone can fathom taking their lives.

When it comes to deaths resulting from bullying there are alot to be blamed - the person being bullied for allowing it and not asking for help, the person doing the bullying and the parents/teachers not noticing the signs that the kid is being bullied. All of these parties are equally to be blamed and singling out a one party is silly.

I think the overwhelming sympathy in this thread says that if someone commits suicide it's their own fault.

Obviously, none of you have had to deal with such a tragedy at a personal level. Sure, no one told them that's the only way they could deal with it but it's not like one day they woke up and said, "Hey, that's the answer!"

Schools have never taken bullying seriously. They still continue not to. I remember seeing kids get the SHIT beat out of them. Bloody, bruised kids weren't out of the ordinary and I went to a fairly decent middle school. It's not like I grew up in a rough part of town, so I don't think you can chalk it up as 'hood kids doing hood things.'

So what if you think that these people that took their own lives were 'weak', they still were pushed to the breaking point by others. If schools and parents took a harder stand against bullying perhaps just one of those kids wouldn't have been harrased as much as they were and maybe they would still be alive. If you don't agree with that then you have no regaurd for a human life.

As to everyone speaking about 'survival of the fittest' I propose a simple senario. What if I rolled up to your house one day while you and your family were asleep and I burned your house to the ground. You make it out but are unable to save your family and they all die. What would you think, if in the next few days you saw some television personality talking during the 5 O'clock news about how, while it's sad, it's not really a big deal because, after all, isn't it all about 'survival of the fittest?' I, personally, would be fucking enraged.

People throw out words and ideas on forums like this without any thought as to what they'd say if they faced the parent of a child who took their life after intense and sustained bullying. Think before you post.
