But I think 3 levels might be good... noob, regular, and serious.
My biggest question is how to moderate in there... stricter rules? Or more lenient?
Personally, if I was a member, I'd want stricter... but people will get pissed if they get banned for something "stupid" in a section they paid for. Then again, if I allow shenanigans to go on in the paid forums, people will get pissed because it's supposed to be a place where the more mature members gather!
A quandary, it is...

Most likely, yes. $3 is just the general idea.
I may make the one-month more than $3, mainly to discourage one-month memberships. It might be a pain in the ass to have people popping in for a month and then being gone!
But yeah, that's the plan. If you buy a few months at a time (maybe 3, 6, and 12 will be the options...) then it'll knock a few bucks off. Maybe 3 a month, 6 for 15, 12 for 25... I dunno. i'll have to see how it pans out.
It's also possible that more sections, larger PM boxes, etc... will cost more in bandwidth, so I need to make sure this won't actually be creating more of a cost than it's offsetting! lol

Yeah, and I don't want to deal with refunds. You pay for access, the payment supports the site. Access is granted on the assumption that you will respect and follow the rules of the forum. If you cannot, your premium membership is void. That goes over much better when the membership expires in a month!

Excuse me gentleman, maybe I can give some genuine feedback to the discussion now. Forgive me if some of this stuff has been said before, as I much rather prefer to look at women in Yoga pants than to read this long thread. It's nothing personal... it's just how I am. =p
I don't know if any of you guys are familiar with the site DTMpower. Was basically THE biggest BMW board on this side of the pond a couple years ago. Something happened in the higher ranks and the decision was made to start charging members for membership.
After that it went to a total shit show.
Don't get me wrong part of that reason it went to a shit show was drama. I'm a little bit iffy on this O.G thing. It just seems that some of you are living in the past and because it was so great and you're not really being tolerant to the new age. Of course there are some tards that join. That's just life, You just ignore these things. But with the new influx of members there are some that rise out of the ashes and become gems to the community. If we don't leave the information out and available, how are the new members with a straight head on their shoulders supposed to see the great wealth of information on this site.
My opinion is to be more strict with the new people who don't follow the guidelines of reading the sticky's and doing the necessary searching.
Now for those of you who were nice enough to read my post. I have a treat for you.

Mak, I skipped right ahead to the treat... cliff notes?
I'm not thinking of charnging for membership itself. Any paid areas will be additional, and won't offer anything worthwhile (cb7 related) that you can't find elsewhere on the forum. No current features will be removed or changed, and nobody will be required to pay anything to get the full benefit of the site.
Really, all I have in mind at the moment for the paid area is a private MR section (for those that don't want to advertise their precious cars publicly), an OT discussion area, larger PM boxes, MAYBE avatars if I can figure out how, and I'll probably try to work with our affiliated vendors to get some special discounts occasionally.
Although, the threat of dividing the membership TOO much is very real... that could prove to be bad...
