If I make sticky threads just to access the forum, I'd never hear the end of it... I really WOULD do the meatloaf thing!

Trust me, I get 10 PMs a week about the Classifieds section alone...

We'll eventually upgrade the software. When we do that, I might find some way to make things more... clear, I suppose.

I'm also considering a paid section. $3 a month or something, and anyone who pays will get a larger PM box, access to "premium" sections (like another OT section, a private MR section for those that don't like thier info being public, etc...), and maybe even special deals with the site's affiliated vendors.

I'll probably make a thread about it soon, to gauge interest and take suggestions on what I could offer. It'd help me cover the cost of running the site, and it'd also provide a place limited ONLY to the people serious enough to pay for access to those areas. I would also require a higher post count... maybe 200, maybe more, just to be able to gain access.

Then we can have our idiot forums, our normal forums (for people smart enough to make 30 worthwhile posts without being e-pummeled by me), and our "i'm serious enough to cough up magazine-subscription money for this site" section.

I wouldn't limit anything that's already available, though... it'd only be additional sections.

Kelton that shit is priceless! That needs to be made an automatic must read. Also have an acknowledgement that it has been seen and understood by the noobs.

Noobs should also have a password in there, just like the classifieds, to post out of the beginner section after 30 posts. This will be made clear to them at the end of reading the stickys. Furthermore if there are any threads about why can't I post out of the begginner section, etc... Mods should post read stickys and knock out half of there posts off along with locking or deleting the thread. I feel this makes beginners understand this has to be done to keep the flow of questions and answers on track. Serves them right to not read the damn stickys.

I know when I came in here I did some of this shit as well. This was the first forum I entered and got some help but after 30 posts my ass was chewed out some stupid things I should have learned from the stickys.

NOOBS: We are not here to do your homework. We are more like a tutor. You do the work and we will help along the way. If your mom pays us we may just might help you a bit more.

I cant quite put my finger on the exact date but it seems in the last year or so, things have really started to turn....ghetto, i guess.

Back in the day, when i joined, this place was happenin! I think 05-07 was the best time for this site. The bigger names have since moved on and they dont come around as much, if at all. I can see why. I consider myself 3rd generation CB7tuner. As i got here, the Firsties were heading out because of my new generation. Im now pulling away due to the influx of what is probably the 5th generation. Maybe 6th. There's nothing wrong with them, Im not flaming, Im sure theyre cool people but they just dont posess the "knowledge" that the previous generations have. And, yes, i know why. These cars are 17-20 years old and are getting cheaper by the quarter, thus becoming easier for younger people to buy. Unfortunately younger people arent as knowledgeable about things and due to the problems with "kids these days" anyway, they arent exatly top of their class. It used to be that people who could gain access to websites were smart, now anyone can do it and it's dumbing down the system.

Those of you who "have no problem searching and finding things" are a great, exceptional bunch. Most people think you just type it in and it appears. They dont know how to phrase or search in sub-sections or search by poster, post or title. And, frankly, i dont think theyre going to learn. I know i didnt. It took me a few years before i really started searching that way. Hell, I joined back in '06 and i remember not doing alot of searching. Members were alot harder on newbs back then but i found my way.

Deev, Im not enough anymore to really see just how bad it gets. Earlier this year i started noticing it but i was losing interest in my CB anyway. Then i got my 6G and now, i just check "New Posts" and any of my recent posts or threads. It sucks, and there are a few OGs who are around regularly but i see now why those who moved on, did. It's a combination of everything. Getting a different car, growing older, getting married or having kids(i.e, a life ) and not having time for silly websites, lol. Maybe it's just me. Who knows? I have trouble doing anything beyond checking FB, email and the occasional CB7 or reddit. It's just lost it's luster. The appeal just isnt there anymore. I still come around and i still try to keep with people and see what theyre up to, but as far as what's going on around here, i dont put too much effort into it. It sucks but it's kinda the way of life if you think about it. We all grew up here and this is where we all got our start but as we get older, we move on and move away. This place will always be our home and we'll come back when we wanna feel nostalgic but those who stayed behind have come up and are now the ones who make up the rules for our "home". And to keep it peaceful and to prevent it from turning into a rundown shithole, rules get changed, made and broken in order to keep the peace. So those of us who stayed behind are trying hard to keep it together for the newcomers while those of us who moved on come back and look around and go, "wow, this place has changed some. I remember when this was like that and that was like this...glad to see it hasnt burned to the ground."

I dont really know what Im trying to say here or why Ive rambled on. I guess to say that Im glad it's still here and hasnt burned to ground yet. And thanks for putting up with all the shit so that it stay here and remain, mostly, what it was all those yeas ago.

If it's one thing that "over complicates" things I feel it's...the beginner section. It's like there's two of the same forums I understand the idea behind it, but it doesn't make sense for two reasons. 1, newbs might not really be newbs and have good questions. 2, even straight up newbs have good questions sometimes. I just don't see the point. They can learn by hanging out with the other members and mingling in their threads. None of the other forums I go on (hondasociety, hondaforums, hondaaccordforum, superhonda sometimes) have this and have productive, informative forums. Especially as a mod where I'm moving threads around. I might move a newbs thread accidentally to the wrong section and he/she won't even be able to post in it! I hope the new CD5Tuner doesn't have this

If it's to cut down on "newby" threads, we could enforce them to search moar. I think combining those forums would really clean up the place.

Holy crap. What are you writing a movie?!

Lol njk! But for real I agree. I've been here since 06 I think....I've seen a lot of people come and go and while I wish some of the OGs still posted regularly I feel like we have a solid core of people and the family is still here just busy with life.

Id post more if I had a cb but I have the cg and don't really have so much to offer. I just stick to new posts as well.

No if you get rid of the beginners section then the newbs who are newbs esp to forums are going to really be lost and then you'd have to change the post count and so then they'd be mucking up random threads and threadjacking left and right. Deev has said before that the beginners section isn't for our beneft it is for theirs so they can be newbs without getting flamed to all hell...letting them learn with the core sections will create so many problems you can't forsee.

So we should baby them? Sometimes getting burned is the best way to learn not to touch something If they honestly search and couldn't find an answer, like any one of us, then they should be able to post like the rest of us. Besides, like I said, no other forums I've been on need this and believe me, there's newbs there too.

Thats the thing. They will not search.

What makes you think they would search when theyre let out of their cage?

It is the way it is because it didn't work the other way.

No offense, i don't know how long youve been a mod and it might be because your from cd5 but it is the same there(at least i thought) but you do know that the beginner section and post count are in place to also deter scammers....no one is going to wait around to rip off people.

If you change that then your going to have more transient people lurking to do quick scams.

The point is is that we are not babying them so much as trying to weed out the weak and produce better members. It isn't a perfect system but i believe it has worked well here. Only recently have their been problems with newer members making threads in the wrong section and i feel it is mostly due to newer members not having respect for the rules here and wanting an answer ASAP(which is silly to expect on a forum where there is no guarantee you will receive an answer, esp the one you want, in a timely manner. \

Anyway Deev is not really considering changing things around, he stated that a page back.

But closing the newb section and letting them have free reign over the other sections is only going to make more work for Deev and the mods(which includes you) so im suprised youd even suggest it.

And frankly what other forums do doesn't interest me as this forum is quite different from every forum ive been on(around a dozen) and there is a reason for that.

Hondasociety is a very very informative forum that doesn't use this. Mods clean up when need be and spam is virtually non-existent. I don't think the newbs will do that. If they do, pwn them with flames or I'll close the thread and demand they search. They will learn. If you keep catering to their newby questions, then they won't search. You have to be firm and make your point clear.

I'm not telling Deez what to do, I'm just answering the question of what we thought would improve things around here. There is no right or wrong here, but I think my points are valid since I've said x2312 times other forums don't need this.

honestly I like it the way it is there is a ton of very specific information for people willing to look. The only bad thing is no one looks at it if it's really specific but that forces them to search stikies and then they find their answer without any new input.

It sort of makes sense to merge just so everyone can see but it wouldn't be specific anymore it seems youre more worried with people posting that what information is being provided by this site which IS it's greatest asset.

basically fuck the people posting save the info its more important.

Yet again you missed the point.

Just because 3034 other forums do things one way does not mean that is the right way to do things. If it works for them then great but this forum is more like a house then a public forum.

Its home to a lot of members who have no problem with the way things are ran.

Everyone hates newbs but everyone was a newb at one point.

When i signed up i started in the same beginners section your criticizing and it was not a huge deal.

I learned to search, i posted some questions, i answered questions that i could and before i knew it i had 100 posts, i was a member here, i had friends, and i could post wherever i wanted.

If i had started out in the reg section and was flamed for a week before i learned anything i might have went with Hondasociety or some other lesser forum where your more of a number then a member.

Ive browsed all those forums and they suck.

So while you have a valid point and your allowed your opinion, your basis for information quite literally sucks.

If your one of those people who prefer the way things are done on other forums to this place then by all means turn in your ban badge and go mod those forums.

Lest we forget your comparing a 4thgen specific site to a site specific to Honda.

Totally different. They cant afford to have a beginners section because it would be to confusing, for them it is easier for them to do things the way they do....and since there are so many more members then they just ban without answering questions.

Here we are more leniant because Deev and the mods deal with the same core of members who for the most part follow the rules so they dont have to make it where there are no rules and the mods and admin just do what they please.

A prime example is this thread(and others Deev has made) where he actually considers the opinions and requests of the members here.

Good luck getting that on other forums.

In the end, he's going to do what he wants anyway, and I don't blame him as it's ultimately one man's decision. He asked for suggestions and I gave him my opinion. I stand by my previous points that it can work here and would clean up the place and make it less complicated.
