Trust me, they had a warrant. This was justified. The FBI doesn't have the resources (or desire) to investigate everyone.

Further, you have facebook right? You're just opening the door to everyone anyway.

This was a relatively low-tech tracking device. There are much cooler methods that would really make you flip your lid

the device was described as severely outdated. even had a battery pack.

they said a real pro would have wired it to the vehicle's electrical system.

it also says the guy's dad was also killed in Egypt a year prior and the circumstances surrounding his death were unknown.

they also don't acknowledge it as theirs and quite frankly, it may not be.

so shouldn't they have interest in the device? later.

I agree with mchaley. "Big Brother" doesn't have an interest in just anyone... and yes, if they want to know your every move, they can do it.

Shit, if I wanted to know your every move, I assure... I could do it, too. Digging up info on people and learning who they are, what they do, where to find them, who they know, where they go, and when they're active... that's not very difficult to do. Give me $2000, 2 weeks, and access to no more technology than I have sitting right in front of me at this moment, and I guarantee you I'd find out way more about you than you'd think possible. You don't need to be the FBI to do that. A simple apprentice PI is more than capable.

If some schmuck in a suit wants to sit down the block in a Navigator with binoculars and electronic doo-dads watching my every move... he's more than welcome. I'll even give him a shot at the midget if he wants!

Honestly the government can do what they want when they want. Just like that if they say they want to lock you up they can now to hold you they need to have proof they can get that if they are clever enough. We no longer live provate lives like that anymore.

There are acts of terrorism excuses they can use to flip the script on just about anything that we do through the use of loop-holes. When you use yoru gps weather its in the car or portable who or what do you think is tracking you. When you use your cellphone everyday to call someone with the nice phone rates and multiple lines who do you think is tracking you?

When you make a card transaction or watch tv who do you think is tracking you. That box that allows you to watch regular tv is a transmitter others are actual cameras. When crimes are committed im not sure if you guys have that down there in other states where they have police cameras on certain troubled areas of the town to look at the neighborhoods. Not the stoplight camera but the neighborhood watch cams.

                    huh?

In trouble areas they have gun shot detectors.

You want to see a police state, look at London, England. They have SO many CCTV cameras, it's mind boggling.

Law Enforcement along with anyone else can hack your phone and listen in but so what. My life is too boring for someone to want to track :P

Also, the .gov isn't as sophisticated as you think. There are no tracking devices in your GPS. There are no tracking devices in your TV. There ARE devices in your phone but that's more for 911 being able to locate you. They have to be turned on and to turn them on by law enforcement requires warrants.

If the law were as evil as you're making it sound, OJ Simpson would have gone to jail the first time.

gathering personal information is actually quite easy, you don't need GPS tracking devices. the fact that this was outdated doesn't surprise me; just remember that although the government may not have seizure and control over every surveillance and tracking device does not mean that extremely high tech ones aren't already in production.

                        life is good.

I think you're underestimating the capabilities of Big Brother.

                          Can they? Yes.
Do they? Only when necessary. They're not listening and watching EVERYONE, just the ones they want, but they have the capabilities to watch whoever they want to, and in ways that haven't even been discussed here. (Shit I sound like a conspiracy nut to myself )

Welcome to a police state, they're already using cameras in and putting more cameras in five troubled parts of Columbus, Ohio.

There also doesn't need to be a tracking device in your phone or GPS. If it can be located by the satellite to track your progress and/or your call, they can find you and track you, it's part of the way it works. If it wasn't trackable, it would be useless. (The military only (relatively) recently allowed GPS manufacturers to make retail units accurate within a yard when in actuality, the capabilities are accurate down to the unit itself) We have satellites that can read the date on a dime on the street. The technology is out there, it's just prohibitively expensive and logistically impossible to use on everyone.

The DOD, NSA, CIA, and FBI are number 1 for a reason. I know they've got some really crazy tools at their disposal. The unit in question is not one of those things. It looks like a backyard project.

I also think that a lot of what we fear is not actually worth much. GPS receivers and tv's don't have transmitters in them. Phones do. Heck, if I had 15 minutes alone with your phone I could have it rigged to hear all of your calls, track you, intercept texts, etc. There's some pretty crazy stuff out there.

Newer GPS receivers send speed and location info for traffic purposes. GPS units that give routes based on traffic conditions know what's going on based on the feedback from other GPS units.

CAN the government track us? Absolutely. Would they? Probably not. Not unless they have a reason to.
