All joking aside about this ritard concept. It's a fail if you ask me.

Not paying attention is the reason for these types of things. It's fairly obvious that lack of attention when driving tends to cause accidents. That's why it's always nice to have peoples attention on the road whilst driving. A person who is attentive would notice the painting and hopefully the person behind them would also be paying attention and regarding tailgating/speeding laws. However if they are not, sucks to be them when they have to pay for the damages. Might make them pay more attention next time.

Very true... but not paying attention, and then reacting at the last second when you think you see a child in the road is going to cause problems. Moreso than reacting just before (or just after) hitting a real speedbump.

Not paying attention is the majority of the problem, but this adds a panic reaction that will greatly increase the potential for an accident.

Furthermore, it will only work on people that aren't familiar with the road.
The road I take to the gas station every morning is a small residential road. Because of this gas station, and the traffic it generates, the town put 7 speed humps on this half-mile stretch of road. I go about 20mph down this road, due to these humps. Every day. Without fail. Any faster, and I fear they will damage my suspension.

If these humps were replaced with illusory children, it might slow me down the first time. The reason behind them might slow me down for a week or two. After that, I won't even see the little bitches anymore. I'll go as fast as I want, because Patty isn't going to do a damn thing to slow me down!

Then the real thing...physical speed bumps are superior...you HAVE to slow down or you will fuck up your car...how is that not a better speed deterant?

I watched the video and it looks totally fake, it wouldn't even slow me down.

Real speedbumps slow me down. Maybe they need to start making bigger speedbumps so soccer moms in their SUVs will actually feel them.

ill admit, when i first drove up to it, it caught my attention reaaaaaaaaaaaaaal fast!

even though i was only doing 30kmph, it immediatly did make me more aware that i was in a school zone and i did end up scanning the area for kids....so i guess it does work a bit...but then i drove over patty and i felt great to have smooshed her face in

Bottom line is this; people are dumb. Sorry, but it's true and you all know it.

A hologram--a picture--a painting, is not going to slow people down. Give it a few weeks to get the word out, which is already is, that theyre not real, and pavement patty will be what it started as; a failed idea.

REAL speedbumps work because if you hit it, you're gonna feel it. Want people to slow down more? Make the speedbumps bigger and/or more squared. Problem solved.

on a few streets theres cardboard cut outs of police officers with a radar gun :P

they move them to different locations from time to time :P

I swear, since moving to Alberta from Ontario, I have encountered the absolute WORST of the worst drivers in Alberta and Saskatchewan.

If I'm on the highway and behind cars with Alberta, Sask and BC plates, I make sure to stay closer to the BC car.
