    Gulf Aid Allstars

With the efforts in the gulf to support the oil spill,
these artists got together to form some good music.

    Group: Gulf Aid All-stars
    Preservation Hall Jazz Band
    Mos Def
    Trombone Shorty
    Lenny Kravitz

How many more genres can jump in and create this awesome mix of hip hop and jazz, and I would say a small amount of dixieland!

If you love music check this out:

    That's awesome.

At least when something terrible happens, it always seems to spark the world's musicians into cool collaborations.

Thats sweet, hopefully they make an album.

      I love Jazz.

Problem is there is a lot of garbage so it takes time to dig through it and find the good shit.

I like big band jazz way better than the small ensemble stuff... but this is funkier. Not the smooth jazz shit you normally get from the small groups!

If you want some good Jazz stuff, check out Maynard Ferguson (his Big Bop Nouveau record is my favorite... which is actually done with a smaller band than his older stuff... he also did awesome arrangements of the themes from Rocky and Star Wars) Stan Kenton (my favorite is Live from Brigham Young... that version of Malaga ranks among my top 5 favorite songs of all time). I also just dug up Pat Metheny's "The First Circle" (there are a few good versions on YouTube, though none are the one I'm familiar with.) It's a cool song... 12/8:10/8 compound time signature. That was a fun one to play back when I played jazz!
